Xbox indie fans have something to rejoice about today, as Team Meat, the team of developers responsible for Super Meat Boy told IGN that the game would be released on the Xbox Live Arcade in addition to its release on the Wii.

Super Meat Boy has been in development for about six months now and since it was announced, it was thought the title would be a WiiWare exclusive, something many hardcore platform gamers lamented. However, with today’s announcement, Team Meat has opened their game to a much broader audience which can only be good for Meat Boy.

I loved Van Helsing, the 2004 movie with Hugh Jackman tearing through wolfmen, vampires, and all sorts was just too much fun. Sadly, the official game wasn’t up to much. Dracula: Undead Awakening (D:UA) takes that Van Helsing vibe and puts it straight into a top-down shooter for the PlayStation Minis collection.

Originally an iPhone release, D:UA has now been ported for Sony’s ever increasing range of Minis. Just how does this twin-stick shooter translate to the single stick PSP?  Answer: Not too badly, actually.

Since the NBA Jam remake announcement, many old Acclaim enthusiasts were saddened that the game will only be coming to the Wii.  Well, according to Andrea Schiel, Software Engineer at Electronic Arts Canada, the game will be making its appearance on the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well.

Nothing is in writing, and all we have is a ‘summary’ of Schiel’s resume.  But being the only Los Angeles Clipper fan in the world, I’m desperately wanting to run people over with my Baron Davis / Chris Kaman combo on the PS3. Read more… »

For those of you who own more than one console and a high end PC, chances are you have your fair share of plastic guitars controllers.  Keeping track of battery life, cables, chargers, etc. probably gets a bit tedious after a while, and you probably wish  someone would hurry up and make a universal controller to reign over all.

Well, Sony has recently submitted plans to make a universal game controller.  While things like this usually don’t come into fruition, we can only hope that one day this may be true. Read more… »

Covering 20th century warfare in video games is beginning to run its course.  With a reoccurring Call of Duty title out every year, the locales are beginning to thin out.  But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any settings left.

Right now, little is known about this year’s Call of Duty, but sources are pointing toward South East Asia.  The Vietnam War is a landscape that’s been relatively unscathed in comparison to World War II and the conflict in the Middle East.  What kind of controversy can we expect this time? When you get to be my age, you tend to look back on your early gaming years with a sense of nostalgia.  I yearn to return to those days of innocence when all it took was two buttons and a directional pad to play games.  One title from my youth that holds a special place in my heart is the NES classic Blaster Master.

I have fond memories of the critically acclaimed mix of side-scrolling platforming and overhead shooter gameplay that made the game so popular back in the day.  When Sunsoft announced it was releasing a spiritual successor to it on WiiWare, entitled Blaster Master Overdrive, I was extremely excited to have a chance to relive my childhood.  Sometimes though, it’s best to leave those fond memories of your youth in the past. Welcome, yet again, to another rousing week at Gamer Limit; and, ah, what a week it was. There were a plethora of community blogs, some fantastic features, a group of exquisite reviews, and even a contest for the readers/members. It was really quite a  smashing week.

But, apparently, most of you have been spending your time watching something called “the Winter Olympics.” I’m not exactly sure what that is, but I’m fairly certain it’s nowhere near as interesting as the games you could have been playing or the articles you could have been reading.

If there’s one genre that is over-represented on the iPhone, it has got to be tower defense. With a minimal investment of money and people power, you can push a serviceable game out to the market in a short period of time. With a few exceptions (the excellent GeoDefense comes to mind), the platform is saturated with mediocre clones of clones of clones of TD standards.

It’s no secret that the Gamer Limit crew went a bit ga-ga over the PC release of Plants Vs. Zombies; it came in runner up to Torchlight for best PC game in our 2009 Game of the Year Awards. With the transition to the iPhone, PopCap faced the twin challenges of recreating the original PvZ magic with a new control scheme/hardware and standing out amidst the shambling horde of tower defense offerings already available. Read on for the official Gamer Limit verdict!

We’re kicking it old school and bringing back “What Are YOU Playing” for another week. Come on in and let us know what you’ve been playing this past week, and what you intend to sink your teeth into for the week ahead.

The Yakuza 3 demo hit the PlayStation Store on Friday, but I couldn’t help feel a pang of disappointment with how it played. If you disagree, feel free to shame me into giving it another chance.

A quick search on the internet for “video game addiction” brings up many results for clinics and organisations claiming treatment for the problem. The website for On-Line Gamers Anonymous even has its own 12-steps and (somewhat dubious) list of addictive games.

Video game addiction is not listed as an official condition by the American Medical Association, however, intense debate is underway about whether it should be included. Why should you care about this? Can video game addiction possibly be as bad as alcohol, gambling, or drug addictions?
