Gamer Limit Banner

This week on Retro Reunion we have a very special commercial for you. This little gem isn’t pimping the Sega Mega Drive or SNES – oh no! This 30-second clip is dedicated to what is obviously one of the most incredible handheld gaming devices in the history of games.

The ad starts out like a steamy night with Russell Brand: hot. Arnie is doing his thing, donned in his classic Mr. Freeze outfit. But then something happens; all of a sudden it switches gears and becomes even more radically bodacious. You’ll definitely have to pick your jaw up off the floor when you see how insanely insane the insane graphics are!

In San Francisco, Nintendo blew the world away with its US media summit.  A slew of releases have confirmed dates and will be making their US debuts within the coming months.

Among the titles, the most anticipated releases are Metroid: Other M and Mario Galaxy 2.  Not to mention, the DSi XL will be appearing in US stores very soon.  And who said the Wii is on its way out the door? Read more… »

GameStop is rolling out the red carpet and opening its wallet to its consumers.  From now until March 14, the retailer is offering 50% credit to those who are looking to trade in their games.

What spurred the retailer’s generosity?  Who knows, but those who are looking to pawn off any recent AAA title can expect to get roughly $30 back.  Not too shabby. Read more… »

We’ve been reporting about the R18+ rating debacle for the last year or so, where adult gaming in Australia has become hampered by an outdated, complicated and generally ridiculous scheme that bans any title that doesn’t fit the requirements of your standard 15 yr old.

In December last year, the federal government of Oz released a discussion paper on the subject and invited the public to make submissions for or against the introduction of an R18+ rating for gamers. 3 months on, and there has been a resounding response from the gaming community, local industry and general concerned public in support of the rating.

How successful has it been? Most public submission calls usually rope in a few thousand responses at the most. This one has brought in a whopping 22,000+ submissions. These aren’t just signatures folks, since they can range from a simple template based response, to full blown 17 page researched and referenced essays. In any case, every single one is obligated to be published and submitted to the Attorney General.

Seeing as how I’m getting ready to spend another $10 on the newest Borderlands‘ DLC pack (The Secret Armory of General Knoxx), I feel more than safe in saying that Gearbox has figured out how to use extra content to their benefit and ours.

Not only does this new DLC push the level cap from fifty to sixty-one, but it introduces new missions, areas, weapons, enemies, vehicles, and class mods to the already robust Borderlands experience. To top it all off, they’ve tweaked the enemy AI so we won’t just be fighting more of the same, and the new areas are supposed to add up to more than twice the size of the Zombie Island of Dr. Ned. All things considered, it sounds like Gearbox has struck gold with General Knoxx.

Typically, when someone mentions Square Enix, you’re almost guaranteed to hear Final Fantasy in the same conversation.  And when people think of Final Fantasy, they generally think of mega Japanese gaming series.  Well, this time around, Square Enix has shied away from its stardom and has settled on a much simpler and smaller game called Season of Mystery: The Cherry Blossom Murders.

While this game is out of the ordinary for many Square fans, there are definitely elements of story progression and climactic drama worth mentioning.  And if mystery and suspense are your cup of tea, then please, read on. Read more… »

New Steam UI beta announced
By: | February 23rd, 2010

Steam users have been reporting wonky behavior all afternoon, from their friends list suddenly emptying to not being able to connect to certain pages on the Steam website. It seems as if the reason behind all of this has been revealed, as Valve announced a major update to the Steam user interface today.

One of the things that has been griped about the most since its creation in 2002, it looks as though Valve is finally moving their digital distribution platform into the “Web 2.0″ age to compete with Impulse, Stardock’s meager client that looks great but has less offerings than Steam. Read more… »

After a roughly fifteen year hiatus from new releases, website RetroZone has just released a new NES cartridge.  That’s right – not Virtual Console, and not a port – a brand new game on a decades-old system.  I think this one-ups the new Dreamcast game that came out late last year…

Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril is a brand new game that you can buy now, including the game, instructions, and one of those sweet black dust sleeves, for only $30.  It’s region-free and will work on most any NES or clone (like the RetroDuo), but…  it sold out immediately.

Today media giant Warner Bros. announced that it has acquired developer Rocksteady Studios, best known for last year’s blockbuster Batman: Arkham Asylum.

According to a Kevin Tsujihara, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group president, “Rocksteady demonstrated its professionalism and extraordinary development abilities with Batman: Arkham Asylum. This arrangement is a great strategic fit and we are very pleased to solidify our relationship with this talented development team.” Read more… »

Hearing that a new 2D Worms is coming back is probably the best gaming related news I’ve heard in years.  For the majority of you, this probably seems like another title making a reboot, but for me, this is a rush of excitement and memories all of suddenly flooding back to my brain.

Worms Armageddon was the first game I ever played online, and it worked perfectly on my 56k modem.  That’s right, it was before the high speed internet hit the mainstream.  A time when people used their phone jacks and AOL to surf the interweb. Read more… »

It’s been over two decades since the NES original A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia was released to hordes of adoring fans – myself included. Since that time, the classic disappeared off my radar, and I doubt I would have ever thought about it again had it not been for WayForward Technologies.

Their re-imagining was released on the Wii near the end of 2009, and this review has been a long time coming (apologies). Without utilizing any of the Wii’s motion sensor abilities, and forgoing any dialogue or introductory backstory, A Boy and His Blob immediately captures the essence of retro games. But does it succeed in our contemporary world of video games?

If you haven’t heard by now, Blizzard has released the Starcraft II beta on the public and a few of Gamer Limit’s staff have caught the fever.  The result: widespread hysteria is sweeping the nation, and people are shelling out some serious cash to get their hands on the title.

Even though the game is expected to release later this year, that’s not stopping the zomb-ified from getting their hands on the game.  Check out some of the prices this game is going for. Read more… »
