When you think of competitive kart racing games, Mario Kart is the main franchise that comes to mind, with several iterations on all number of Nintendo systems. However, developer Nimblebit is hoping to shake up the kart racing genre with their first offering for the PC, Zero Gear.

It’s hard not to draw parallels to Mario Kart when speaking of a kart racing game, and Zero Gear stays true to the style, offering numerous weapons to use against your opponents in an effort to score an underhanded win.

Gamer Limit Review: Toki Tori
By: | February 7th, 2010

Toki Tori was originally released in 2001 on the dying Game Boy Color system. While it didn’t see much success on the platform, mostly due to the growing popularity of the Game Boy Advance, it was a fun little platformer with unique charm, and those who played it seemed to really enjoy it.

Fast forward to 2010 and Toki Tori is back, this time invading Steam and offering up the same puzzling gameplay fans of the original release will love. You might have already played the game on your iPhone or your Wii, as it was released in 2009 for these platforms. However, the new release on Steam brings 31 achievements into the mix, along with Steam cloud and controller support.

If I had to choose a game with a good story over one with good gameplay, I would pick the former.  There are infinite arguments over the merit of either (story or gameplay), but a good story gets the blood pumping in my brain – and my genitals.

So, when I discovered the Wii would feature the next Silent Hill game, my speculation raged. I assumed it would be another motion controlled fiasco that would further cement my distaste.  I was wrong.  Climax created an excellent entry into the series that proves motion controls can enhance narrative. It’s been a fun couple of days for Sega.  In their most recent financial report, the company indicates a slight uptick in their fiscal year net income.  Spanning the months of April-December of 2009, Sega had some impressive sales, for multiple games.  The most successful of these was Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games, which over that span moved 5.6 million units.

Perhaps even more surprising than that, however, are the sales numbers put up by sexy action newcomer Bayonetta.  The action/adventure title from Hideki Kamiya, the same creator as Devil May Cry, moved 1.1 million units from October 29th until the end of December. Read more… »

Ever since Sony created and showed off an HD, graphically updated sequence from Final Fantasy VII as a tech demo at E3 to prove just how impressive their new PS3 console was, fans have been salivating over the idea of a full-fledged remake to one of the most popular RPG’s ever created.

However, according to Square Enix’s Yoshinori Kitase in an interview with Ultimania magazine, they currently have no such plans.  In fact, many fans fail to realize just how difficult a task it would be to update FFVII, while simultaneously remaining true to the spirit of the original game.  Kitase believes that if they were to remake the game (and again, they aren’t), it would take quite some time. Dragon Age: Origins was a big game. Now, it’s getting even bigger, with the upcoming expansion pack, entitled Awakening. While this is very cool in and of itself, things have gotten even more exciting with the release of some recent trailers for the game, neither clocking in at over a minute long.

The Dangerous Children trailer after the jump seems almost like a survival-horror quest, while the Anders clip appears to be full of humor and badassery. Throw those two together in the same expansion disc, and the world of Dragon Age is looking better than ever. Read more… »

Videogame-movie tie-ins usually suck, but you knew that. Well trusted sources and statistics have shown that approximately 10/473.95 tie-in products show promise, while the rest fail to be nothing more than Regis Philbin’s babies, or as Nick insists, cousins of the infamous cottage cheese. Of the ten that show promise, maybe only half realize its nipple-nipping potential.

Avatar’s currently killing silver screen numbers, which means that there’s probably a product that ties in with it somewhere in this desolate, desperate planet. Alas, they have indeed inevitably made an iPhone game if you didn’t know by now. It is, after all, the trendy thing to do these days. What you may or may not know is that this Avatar game for the iDevice actually doesn’t suck like, well … basically every videogame-movie game out there. Read more… »

Back in the dying gasps of 2009, Gamer Limit posted about a competition Ruffian Games was running which could see talented artists having their work  sprawled across the virtual city of Crackdown 2. Well, the judges have convened, the votes have been counted, or whatever voodoo they use to decide these things in Scotland and the winners have been announced.

For some highlights, hit the jump, otherwise head over to Ruffian’s forums to check out the winners for yourselves. Read more… »

Today Microsoft announced that it plans to shut down Xbox Live service for the original Xbox on April 15. According to Microsoft by discontinuing original Xbox support, it “will allow us to continue evolving the Live service.”

How does this affect you? Well, shutting down Xbox Live for the original Xbox means that all version one Xbox games that are playable on the Xbox 360, as well as Xbox Originals, will no longer be playable online. Read more… »

With all the latest hype surrounding Project Needlemouse, it’s only fitting that we add a little retro flavor to the mix. Video game ads just aren’t what they used to be; back in the day, it was perfectly logical (and hilarious) to blend one of the biggest sequels with an infomercial.

The end result is a great marketing piece that doesn’t take itself seriously. Not that Sega really needed to make a big push for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 thanks to the success of its predecessor.

Many gamers are familiar with Splinter Cell: Conviction‘s lengthy and troubled development history.  The game has received numerous delays over the years, even dropping off the map for a time to undergo a complete overhaul.  Needless to say, the anticipation of seeing the game actually get out the door and into our consoles is high.  In fact, the game even made our list for most anticipated games of 2010.

A couple of weeks back, Ubisoft announced that the game was once again being pushed back, this time to the month of April. Groans and the resounding cry of “Duke Nukem Forever!” followed, even as Ubisoft assured fans that this was not a bad sign. Well today, it seems that they are finally putting doubts to rest. The Grinder is a polygamist now
By: | February 4th, 2010

We just caught wind that Gladiator A.D. got hit with a few changes. Now we learn that High Voltage Software’s other Wii baby The Grinder is no longer a Wii exclusive. The game will be coming to the PS3, 360, and PC in addition to the little white funbox.

More details on the new versions will drop during GDC. In the meantime, we have a new trailer for the current Wii build. I swear that the music in the video is straight out of a Harry Potter film.

Of course, developing for new platforms = delay. The game has been pushed back to Halloween 2011. Holy crap.
