Today developer Futuremark, best known for their hardware tech demos, announced that it will be offering a free weekend to try out its zero-g multiplayer shooter Shattered Horizon. In order to participate, just log-in to Steam this Friday, February 19 at 00:01 GMT. The trial period will last until 21:00 GMT Sunday, February 21.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with this shooter, let me fill you in. Shattered Horizon is a FPS set in space, meaning players are free to move in all six axises. This adds a new level of challenge to the classic FPS mechanics not seen anywhere else.

According to Jaakko Haapasalo, producer at Futuremark Games Studio, “This weekend PC gamers everywhere can play Shattered Horizon for free. And for the duration of the weekend, even though we recently doubled the size of the game by adding new levels, we are offering it to players for half the price, just $9.95 / €9.95.”

Am I the only one interested in this, or will other Gamer Limiters be participating this weekend? As someone who has become bored with most multiplayer shooters, Shattered Horizon is very interesting to me. Hopefully duking it out in zero-g will provide enough of a change to the classic FPS mechanics to keep me interested.

What do you guys think? Is Shattered Horizon just a gimmicky shooter? I guess we’ll have to wait till this weekend to find out.

  1. This sounds pretty interesting. I’m going to try it out this weekend.

  2. This game is really supposed to play out like TF2 in a zero g environment, which really interests me. I’m going to pre-load and see what its all about.
