winterbottom 01 Gamer Limit Review: The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom

Pastry-jacking. It’s a nefarious crime with a long and storied past. Its perpetrators are few and far between, but tend to be some of the most recalcitrant and obsessed repeat offenders the world has ever known.

One cannot discuss dessert theft without mentioning the Knave of Hearts. His lust for tarts led him to betray his very own mother, rebelling against both family and the crown to pull off the greatest recorded pastry theft in documented history. That is, until recently.

Indie developers The Odd Gentlemen bring us a brand new tale of a man so consumed by his desire for pie that he learned to bend the very fabric of space and time just to satisfy it. Read on to get a taste of how The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom played for Gamer Limit!

stalker1 Gamer Limit Review: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat

Call of Pripyat was a decidedly difficult game to anticipate. Coming as it was from a series which has spawned both a hit and a miss, for many the third instalment was anything but a certain success. In 2007, gamers worldwide found themselves enraptured by GSC Game World’s depiction of the radioactive world of the ‘Zone’.

Now, in 2010, we return once again to the uniquely atmospheric setting of the Zone. But will Call of Pripyat be more akin to the classic Shadow of Chernobyl, or the underwhelming Clear Sky?

Bioshock Ending Bioshock 2, Shattered Memories, and the Fine Art of Fatherhood

I am not a father. The possibility of my becoming a father is still up in the air; it seems a distant prospect, like a future that belongs to someone who isn’t quite me. Perhaps I will become that person one day, and perhaps I will not.

My experiences playing the father have come in two recent games: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and Bioshock 2, both of which are games centered heavily on the idea of what it means to be a father, and how parenthood might relate to the people that our children become.

avp1 Gamer Limit Review: Alien vs. Predator (PC)

When people think of the Alien vs. Predator franchise they typically picture one of two things: either a bunch of gnarly games from the 90’s, or two crappy movies that were just looking to cash in on fans dedicated to these two awesome franchises. Unfortunately Rebellion’s new AvP game seems to mirror the latter of these two images.

As the name suggests, AvP pits those nasty Xenomorphs from the Alien movie franchise against the complete badassery of the Predator from the Schwarzenegger classic. The single player portion of the game is split into three campaigns, one for the Alien, one for the Predator, and one for the colonial space marines. Read more… »

halo legends 1 Gamer Limit DVD Review: Halo Legends

There is no denying that the Halo series has become a video game cultural phenomenon that has helped define an entire generation of life-long gamers. Because of this, Microsoft has never been content to keep the Halo brand contained within the confines of just gaming. They have branched out, creating everything from toys, to clothing, books, and even their own line of Mountain Dew drinks.

It’s only natural then that their next big venture would be to bring the series to the small screen, in the form of a collection of seven animated short stories called Halo Legends.  Created by five of the top animation studios in Japan, this collection provides a glimpse into the Halo universe as never experienced before.

The question is, does Halo Legends compliment the games in a way that warrants it being in every Halo fan’s collection, or is it simply another attempt to milk the brand? Read more… »
