Downloadable content is becoming customary in the industry.  Developers continuously back increased content, and it has proven to be an effective business decision.  But, what about the consumer?

The Limitcast will tackle this question, and more, relating to DLC’s STD-like spread.  It’s no sur…*please insert 800 Microsoft points, 600 Nintendo points, or $5.99 to continue reading* Read more… »

As you may have guessed, this post isn’t gaming related. But all of us at Gamer Limit have been severely shocked and horrified by the recent events over in the Caribbean.

As most of you know, the earthquake that recently hit Haiti is one of the worst natural disasters in the last 50 years. At time of print, over 50,000 people have been confirmed dead, with authorities estimating the final toll at a terrifying 200,000. Haiti was already one of the poorest countries in the world, with 80% of the population living in abject poverty.

We know that gamers give like champions, campaigns like our very own Piece of Heart, Sarcastic Gamer’s “Extra Life” and Childs Play Charity prove that in spades. So if you haven’t already considered making a donation, please do. The UN thinks that over half a billion dollars need to flow into Haiti over the next few weeks to stop people dying, so if there was ever a noble cause, it’s this one.

More information below, including our suggested charities to donate to.

A short while back, I posted a short trailer for Nintendo’s oddly titled Zangeki no REGINLEIV. Compared to the first one, this new one goes in a more humorous direction.

A few of the ginormous monsters you battle are compared in height to real-world creatures and objects. One is the size of a giraffe, another is the size of a yacht, and another is the size of Japan’s famous Himeji Castle. Then they go up from there. Dear God.

Zangeki no REGINLEIV lands on Japanese shelves on February 11. There is no word yet on a Western release.

The U.S. commercial for Capcom fighter Tatsunoko vs. Capcom ranks among the greatest game commercials I have ever seen. Period.

It’s like the guys at Robot Chicken crammed an entire episode’s budget into the most high-octane 20 seconds of stop-motion beatdowns. Really, there’s nothing more to say. Watch it. WATCH IT!

Sonic.

After plenty of terrible secondary character ideas, SEGA has finally listened to its fans and is delivering the goods: a 2D Sonic game.  No secondary characters, “playable or otherwise,” according to the SEGA blog.

Also, they’ve graciously bestowed a piece of concept art from the new game to the legions of fans sure to come running back to their once-favorite company, and you can see it yourself after the jump.  Excited yet?

Border Wars screen 1

No, it’s not about crossing the Rio Grande while avoiding patrols.  Border Wars is basically a hand-drawn R-type with a highly customizable ship.  By highly, I mean completely.  As in, the whole game is hand-drawn, and you can completely erase the default ship and drawn your own.  You don’t even have to draw a ship.  You can draw a panda, or a shoe, or a leper.  I didn’t fly around in a doodled penis and shoot green sperm shots at aliens, honest!  That would be immature.

But does my penis ship make this a unique and worthy update of a classic side-scrolling shooter?  Or is it bound to be ignored, just like in real life?

MHBBB
The Matt Hazard series represents very much that of a gamer’s game, rife with references – both narrative and visual – to remind the player of a plethora of titles through the ages. With the newest installment stepping down from a premium title and into the realms of XBLA, has the series found a new home, or a final resting place?

Either way, I feel like the game mirrors my school report cards from many moons ago: “shows promise, but must try harder. Also, displays narcoleptic tendencies”

Okay, maybe not all of that applies to the game.

Return to Ostagar

Dragon Age: Origins is one of the few RPGs out there that will entice you enough to play well over 60 hours and still leaving you wanting more. The recognition it received in 2009 was all well deserved – including the RPG of the year from Gamer Limit.

With promises from Bioware to support Dragon Age for two years, DLC and expansions will be far from a rarity. It’s because of this constant support that you as a gamer will need to be informed as to what DLC is worth it and what is not. Otherwise, you may end up digging quite a hole in your pocket over the next two years.

US PSN Store update: 14.01.10
By: | January 14th, 2010

Another Thursday, another PSN Store update. But this doesn’t feel like a PSN Store update sadly enough. Not much to speak of this week, so back to your Bayonettas and Darksiders.

Still interested? Alright, if you insist… Read more… »

psn-store

It’s a rather mediocre offering this week, unfortunately. While Rock Band has received its usual plethora of DLC added to its continually expanding library, there is little else on offer on the playable front unless you happen to be a die hard fan of the very earth shattering Uno. There are at least a few playable demos to go round with Vancouver 2010, Inferno Pool and the recently released Army of Two: The 40th Day, although for some reason they only released the latter for PSP.

Check out this week’s Store update in full after the break.

swg-anniversary

If there was one MMO in my life that drained the most out of my day, it was Star Wars Galaxies.  It wasn’t my fascination with the lore, or my lack of friends, but it was the game’s dedication to player interactivity, deep character progression, and fantastic PvP mechanics.  Other MMOs funnel players into arenas for PvP conflict, create skyscraper monstrosities for groups, and build a glass ceiling out of loot.  Not SWG.

Granted, all of this was before the dirty combat upgrade or the piss-poor new game enhancements.  These two updates destroyed everything the game stood for, and are the primary reason the game is desolate today.  However, that topic has been drilled more than the middle east’s oil reserves. Let’s focus on the positives instead because, before that happened, Star Wars Galaxies was on the right track. Read more… »

fat

[Each week, our goal is to scour our news posts, Gamer Limit blogs, and our forums looking for topics that make us laugh, sit in shock, or just sit in confusion making us ask the question: WTF?  The top three stories from the Gamer Limiters who make us evoke those reactions will be featured in our brand new editorial called Three Jeers of the Week. So c'mon Limiters, if you find something interesting, let us know about it.  You could be the feature for everyone to see.]

Three Jeers of the Week returns after the holiday hiatus.  The last time we were together we focused on the shame behind the industry, but this week we return with a different approach.  This week’s attention is on our blogging community, and what we realized is that we shouldn’t be playing video games.

It’s not because it turns people into fat slobs and diminishes creativity.  On the contrary, it prevents us from experiencing real life video game scenarios, and the slightest mistakes will have the largest ripple effects.   Read more… »
