Tony-Hawk-Ride-Feet-On-PreviewAlright, show of hands, how many of you played Tony Hawk: Ride?  Two of you?  Wow, more than I expected!  Now, did either of you actually enjoy playing it?  Yeah, that’s what I thought.  Ride had a lot of great ideas – and a lot of potential – but came up short of just about every goal it set out to achieve.  However, it seems that a new title in the series may be on the way, if a recent Tweet by franchise namesake Tony Hawk is any indication.

The statement from Hawk reads: “Just met with @robomodo about our next project and it’s already much better than I expected. Details soon. Chicago is not warm.” Read more… »

At times, it feels that the boundaries we use to categorize games grow blurrier by the day. It is wildly apparent by now that genre blending is a gaming trend with legs. RPG elements, in particular, have sunk their heroin-coated hooks into nearly every type of game over the past five years.

There’s certainly nothing wrong with combining disparate gameplay elements, despite the vocal outrage of a few misguided retro purists. Let’s be honest; everything tastes better with some character progression or dice rolls tossed in the mix, no?

Japanese developer Gaia certainly thinks so. They combine simplistic character progression and dungeon crawling with a unique twist on turn-based card strategy in their release of Sword & Poker for the iPhone. Read on to get the official Gamer Limit verdict!

You Will Die screen

Guess what happens in this game?   Hint: the title is pretty descriptive.

From the creators of the trippy Pong update Revenge of the Ball comes a 2D-shooter where every level is a boss level.  And you will die.  A lot.  By lasers.

Anyone who got to the last chapter, or sequence 14, in Assassin’s Creed II probably noticed that that game suddenly skipped over the two previous chapters before it.  Ubisoft recently announced that these missing chapters would be offered up as paid DLC for anyone interested in spending more time in Ezio’s shoes.

Today they dropped the official release date for the first of these downloadble chapters, called the “Battle of Forli”.  It will be available next week, on January 28th, on both Xbox Live Marketplace and PSN for the low price of $3.99.  To find out more about this missing chapter from the game, hit the jump. Japanese Wii software goes black
By: | January 22nd, 2010

CERO C, D, and Z games now in black boxes

The Wii shelves at Japanese retailers may start to look like piano keyboards in the near future. According to Siliconera, all Wii games from here on out that earn a CERO C, D, or Z rating (equivalent to the ESRB’s T, M, and AO respectively) will ship in lovely black cases as the one above. Naturally, Nintendo’s own Zengeki no REGINLEIV will kick off the festivities.

This serves a dual purpose. One, it should be a screaming age identifier for parents casually browsing for suitable children’s games. Second, it should help the more mature titles stand out and be more appealing. Seems that Nintendo wants to stress that Wii software is not a family-only affair.

No word yet on whether Nintendo will do the same outside of Japan. It should, though. That box is sexy.

I honestly can’t come up with any words that are worthy of describing the new Mass Effect 2 launch trailer Bioware has recently released.  To say that it’s epic, inspiring, or emotionally moving simply does not do it justice.  Hollywood doesn’t even put trailers together that are this good.

If you have never played Mass Effect, you need to watch this trailer.  If you have played it, but you didn’t like it, you need to watch this trailer.  Even if you know deep down in your soul that this is your most anticipated game of the year, and you don’t need anymore convincing, you still need to watch this trailer. With all the multiplayer coverage bombarding Battlefield: Bad Company 2, it’s easy to forget that there even is a single player component.

2 Finger Hero screen

Natal will make many new things possible.  Arkedo (the Big Bang Mini guys) came up with this crazy game involving two-finger walking motions, and they named it the mildly suggestive 2-Finger Heroes.

Unfortunately, it was canceled after only twelve days of development.  Find out why, and see some funky concept art, after the jump.

There’s no doubt about it, professional golfer Tiger Woods has had a pretty rough start to 2010. The news media has had a field day with his marital problems, causing the athlete to lose numerous sponsors. One bit of news that should make Tiger happy is that EA has announced that the next iteration of it’s PGA Tour series, due out in June, will still use the Tiger Woods brand.

EA Sports president Peter Moore stated: “By his own admission, he’s made some mistakes off the course. But regardless of what’s happening in his personal life, and regardless of his decision to take a personal leave from the sport, Tiger Woods is still one of the greatest athletes in history.” Read more… »
