In a recent interview with Game Informer, Sony Senior Vice President of Product Development Shuhei Yoshida talked about a number of things.  One of these topics pertained to the fact that God of War II, a best-selling and critically acclaimed title considered by many to be one of the last great PS2 games, almost ended up on the PS3.

According to Yoshida, certain departments within the team believed it to be a good idea to put Kratos’ second adventure on their new platform, while others wanted to make one final splash on the PS2. Read more… »

Despite lower review scores, a shaky economy, and some stiff holiday competition, New Super Mario Bros Wii has already sold over ten million copies, thus outselling Super Mario Galaxy a mere eight weeks since its launch.

It isn’t surprising that NSMB Wii has sold well; after all, the original DS version of New Super Mario Bros has sold over twenty-one million copies. What is surprising, is how fast it’s sold, and that Galaxy has only managed to move eight million copies, despite the Wii’s fifty-six million install base.

Last week, it was reported that developer/publisher Interplay had inked a deal with Masthead Studios to begin work on an MMORPG based in the Fallout Universe.  The project, known as Project: V13, has apparently been in development since 2007, but has seen multiple delays as a result of various legal squabbles with Bethesda Softworks.

Bethesda announced that they had acquired the rights to the Fallout intellectual property back in April of 2007, which meant that Interplay would have to become a licensee if they wished to continue with the project.  Needless to say, amid various financial and legal troubles, the title has been pushed back many, many times in recent years.   Read more… »

Today developer DICE confirmed that North American residents who purchase Battlefield: Bad company 2 for the Xbox 360 or PS3 will have to do some extra legwork to gain access to the shooter’s Squad Rush multiplayer mode within the the first thirty days of the games release. BC2, which arrives March 2, will only allow gamers who pre-ordered the game from GameStop to access the four vs. four Squad Rush multiplayer mode until April 1.

While this is a pretty crappy move on DICE’s part, at least gamers who pre-order BC2 will be able to invite their friends to play with them, even if they didn’t pre-order the game. Also PC gamers and gamers outside of North America will have access to this game mode without any  pre-order fuss. Read more… »

According to The Wall Street Journal Report, Apple and Electronic Arts are working together to show off the gaming prowess of the new Apple Tablet.  Considering how EA’s Madden, FIFA, Tiger Woods, and Sims 3 games dominated the 2009 App sales, it’s almost natural that the brands will be working together.

Right now, no word is out yet about what games will be debuted with the Tablet, but one should expect the above mentioned properties to make an appearance sometime.  Look out PC gamers, the gaming market may be seeing a shift over the next few years. Read more… »

Flipping Through The Books
By: | January 25th, 2010

Flips

This one is for the parents out there, and just by sheer statistics, that must be some of you. The latter period of 2009 saw EA release a range of books on the DS – Flips – aimed at encouraging those little chaps; you know the ones that are out of diapers and into school to use their DS for more than just just Pokemon, and get their head into a book.

As a parent myself, I can understand why people would stand behind a product aimed at encouraging more reading, but, one question that can’t help but crop up in the addled grey matter that science would call a brain: Why not just read a book?

Read on as I take a look at EA’s release, and see if it really can grow the DS audience, as they claim.

Blood by cube

I’ve found that things with “cube” as a part of their nomenclature tend to vary greatly in quality. There’s Ice Cube, who I’m totally down with. But then there’s the abomination known as cube steak, which succeeds only in insulting every other variety of steak simply through its existence. And bouillon cubes? Don’t even get me started.

So in the realm of cubes, where does Death by Cube, the Square-Enix dual-stick shooter, stand? Unfortunately, the game falls somewhere between the Nissan Cube and cube steak. This is not a good sandwich to be included in.

Uncharted2_Logo-2

While it’s tough for me to accept that there are still some poor souls out there that haven’t experienced the brilliant Uncharted 2, news recently brought to light may put that fact to rest. According to Ame Meyer, Senior Manager of Marketing Communications over at Naughty Dog, the developers behind the highly touted Uncharted franchise, next Thursday will finally mark the release of a demo for the multiple award winner.

So for those of you who prefer to test a game out before you take the plunge, this should be great news, particularly if you were on the fence about the game.

In addition to the demo, it appears that Uncharted 2 will finally be getting its first batch of DLC.  The details surrounding this downloadable content, dubbed the “Playstation Heroes Skin Pack,” are exciting, to say the least.

Mega Man 10 is only a couple of months away, and one of the new features being talked about a lot is the addition of an Easy Mode.  For all those hard core fans of the Blue Bomber who think that Capcom has gone soft, you’ll be happy to hear that the achievements are anything but easy.

Next Tuesday is a big day for gamers.  Mass Effect 2 will be released at last for both Xbox 360 and PC in North America, followed by a Friday launch in Europe.  As proponents of the sci-fi franchise prepare to call in sick and sit down to hours of RPG goodness (yours truly has already dubbed it “Dylan’s Do Nothing Productive” week), many have taken to scouring the internet for any and all related information, to satisfy our growing hunger for developer Biowares magnum opus.

Recently, in an interview with MTV’s Adam Rosenberg, Project Director Casey Hudson revealed that the topic of a Mass Effect film treatment has indeed come up, and he shed some light on how Bioware wants it done. Read more… »
