So I think I should admit that I've never played a single Splinter Cell game. THis has been disappointing me a lot lately, as I'm extremely interested in the new Splinter Cell: Conviction that's coming out soon.

"I went into it expecting a solid action game."

That was your problem. It's not an action game. Conviction, on the other hand...

Why does everyone hate on Double Agent? I honestly thought it was the overall best entry in the series.

This was the first splinter cell I played, and I was far from impressed. I've read plenty of reviews for this title prior to playing, so I went into it expecting a solid action game. Insult me if it justifies your conflicting opinion, but this game just sucked, in my own opinion. Maybe I have an undiscovered retardation that alters my perception to this, and only this game. Or maybe I found it extremely frustrating having enemies spot me while completely hidden in the dark, doing absolutely NOTHING to attract any attention. This game just tried too hard to be realistic and played like a PS1 game.

This is the only Splinter Cell game I've played and haven't come away with a completely "meh" feeling. Hopefully conviction is the game that changes that.

I owned Splinter Cell and Pandora Tomorrow, but never got my hands on Chaos Theory, much to my dismay. I'm thinking about picking it up now, after reading this and realizing what a mistake I made.

These games were great in the stealth genre, and while I was never very good at them, I can safely say that I'll be coming back to them to reminisce on my previous failures, and maybe improve upon my last experience.

Awesome writing, and thanks for bringing back the nostalgia.
