Today Bioware announced the first expansion for Dragon Age: Origins. Dubbed “Awakening,” the new expansion, which adds new locations and party members, is due out this March.
Awakening allows gamers to either play with their existing Dragon Age character, or start over again as “a new Grey Warden from the neighboring land of Orlais.” Players will be tasked with “uncovering the mystery of how the darkspawn survive after the slaying of the Archdemon.”
Along with the new story comes the ability to re-spec your characters, “an increased level cap, new spells, abilities, specializations and items, plus five all-new party members.” Awakening also features new enemies including “an evolved, intelligent breed of darkspawn,” Spectral Dragons and Inferno Golems.
According to the press release,”How players choose to rebuild their order, resolve the conflict with the mysterious ‘Architect,’ and determine the fate of the darkspawn are just some of the many intriguing moral choices that will shape each player’s heroic journey.”
Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening is currently slated to arrive on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 16. The expansion is priced at $40.

Skeletor confirmed!
I’m curious to see how others feel about a $40 price on an expansion pack for a game that only launched a couple months ago.
$40! you got to be effing kidding me.
I have no problem with a $40 price tag. I look at it like the episodes in GTA4 or the two expansions for Oblivion. But because of that, I expect at least 15-20 hours of additional content (which I definitely think will be the case based on the description).
I do feel it is a bit too early to release a $40 expansion. 4 months isn’t much. I would rather this release over the summer when releases are a bit lighter. It would give me time to beat it a couple more times too.
I do question how it will be delivered though. From what I read it seems like it will be a retail disc. And since it required the original game that means it will be much like Fallout 3 DLC. Which means lots and lots of used copies will float around for people to install and trade in.
More DA: Origins can only be a good thing. I can’t wait!
$40US? Hefty price tag. There had better be at LEAST 20 hours worth of gameplay here for me to buy it.
UGH, haven’t even found that friggin golem guy i downloaded. Curse you MW2
Man I am 100% down for it long as their is 15-20 more hours game play, I loved this game as is, maybe they’ll make the settings from normal-nightmare bigger difference in hardness, besides the stupid mods released for game by players. It’s so bunk at idea of some mods, like not being able heal broken body parts ect… pretty bunkness
