@paul

its more the fact that this game is about 6 months away from release and they are already trying to shill dlc. You are right, if the finished product is awesome then wanting to play more will ensue. if the game however is average, and then the dlc slowly gets better than average i will be sat there thinking 'why the hell did they not put their time into making the initial game good then on focussing on dlc'

Dlc is the new sequel, you can make more money and eek out less with less innovation with dlc than would be expected in a whole game but it feels that dlc is just becoming this as standard poorly concieved thing.

Dlc is the movie release video game of the twentyteens

Just don't see much point in criticising plans for episodic content with the game as if that's a bad thing.
It doesn't take much to see "oh my good lordy, Dragon Age expansion? Can't wait!" or to see GTA DLC listed as potential game of the year in some categories, yet another game is planning the same idea and everyone dumps on it as if they said "We plan to contain a sample of our bowels with every edition of the game."
If the game is good, you'll probably want extra content. It's possible, all they are doing is planning that extra content. If you're saying they should put it all together in one game, fine, but when do they stop? When do they stop developing content for it and release? If this is a product that they believe can run with for a long time, without episodic content it'll end up as Duke Nukem Forever and just never be released.

This isn't about the game being good or not - it's a matter of principles, and how the gaming market is devolving into a cash-grab. Give us the game as you would make it, and we won't be bothered about having to shell out for extra DLC. But breaking a single game up into sections and selling them all separately is bloody ridiculous in my book.

I think it's kind of hypocritical for the same people who rant and rave at how good things like GTA's DLC was, to then see a developer saying "we want to deliver that same experience" and you all act is if, they have said "We'll give you the character creation menu for $60, then another $20 per 5 minutes you play."
Wait until the game is out to criticise, for now, try and stay positive perhaps, you never know, the game might actually be good.

In my day we bought a game, finished it, and moved on. Imagine applying the concept of separately selling a continuing story to other forms of media. I hate the idea of buying a book without an ending and having to ditch out more of my filthy dirty dollars for an end to a story.

As long as the game's good, I really don't care if they're nickle and diming me.

So.... it's probably going to end up costing us well over a hundred dollars to play this game in its entirety? Remedy can suck a camel dick.

@ All the commenters above -- especially given that this game has already been pushed back multiple times, due to "wanting to make sure it is bug-free and polished". Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Dragon Age was the same story. Thankfully I pre-ordered a collector's edition before it was too late. I ordered it from EA, as I absolutely hate GameStop.

I gotta agree with both Chris and Jordan here. It's just so annoying to hear announcements like this. Makes me lose respect for the developers at times.
