Apologies: Server Movement
By: | January 31st, 2010

Many apologies for the lack of content as of late; Gamer Limit has been moving from our old, sluggish and generally craptastic Chicago host/datacenter to our shiny, new and speedy LA datacenter.

As a result, we’ve had a few issues with transfer, DNS propagation and a bunch of other technical issues. Everything should be completely resolved within the next few days, so please bear with us.

Look forward to a significantly faster site and forums at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for your patience!

When it comes to flight simulators, there aren’t too many titles that stand out.  In fact, over the past few years the PC hasn’t really seen a memorable simulator in years.  But for those who are itching to take to the skies, Gaijin Entertainment has delivered a visual spectacle with an in-depth control scheme that delivers a historical account of World War II from Ally fighter pilots.

Before I begin, there’s a need to tell you that, as the reviewer, you should know I’m covering Wings of Prey from the perspective of someone who isn’t familiar with flight simulators.  But I’ve learned that whether you’re a rookie or a veteran pilot, that doesn’t mean this game won’t appeal to those who are interested.

And if that doesn’t bother you, then come away with me as we explore the skies over Europe. Read more… »

The Vandal Hearts series was never particularly amazing to begin with. Nevermind that the title of the game is seriously misleading (it refers to a legendary sword, as in “only one Vandal Heart exists”), the storylines were never all that great, and the gameplay of the first two games were mediocre and terrible, respectively. Sure, I enjoyed the original game immensely, but it was mostly because of how over-the-top the game was, with crazy blood geysers and liberal use of Deus-Ex Machina.

It makes me wonder why there was such an effort to bring the series back in the first place, especially if the comeback game is going to wind up as nothing particularly special. Such is the nature of Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment, the first game in the series in a decade.

Everybody loves sandbox games. By nature, it seems to be the most accessible type of videogame, allowing gamers all over the world to immerse in an escape full of thuggery, crime, chaos, unpredictability and freeform slaughter. Admit it; you dish out your $60 to have your fun with dumb A.I. civilian, thinking of creative ways to blow their bodies up in various situations, and it’s only gotten better. Read more… »

The excitement and mystery surrounding Project Needlemouse, SEGA’s supposed next entry into the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, is impressive.  After all, back in September SEGA revealed their reasoning behind the title, and it seems they’ve figured out what the community has clamored for all along – another 2D Sonic game.

Sonic Unleashed, the most recent outing for the blue blur, featured semi-2D segments that saw the camera shifting to a side view. These were well-received by fans, with many voicing hope for an entire title dedicated to them. Read more… »

Just yesterday, 2K and Gearbox Software announced the third installment of DLC for Borderlands is on its way. Titled The Secret Army of General Knoxx, it seems as though this DLC pack will address some of the concerns gamers had with Dr. Zed and Moxxie.

While not much is known concerning this new DLC, Gearbox did announce that it will raise the level cap beyond 50, which is what many gamers have been asking for since before the first DLC came out. In addition, Gearbox stated that Knoxx would focus on content for players level 34 and up, while expanding content for those looking to level past 50.

If you’re old enough to remember playing games back in the 80’s, then at some point you probably played Sega’s classic arcade flight game After Burner.   If you’ve actually been to an arcade in the last four years there’s a good chance you stumbled upon the fourth game in that series, After Burner Climax.

The great thing about the After Burner series is it doesn’t matter if you’ve played the first or the fourth game, because they’re all exactly the same.  Now you can bring that lack of innovation home, as Sega is releasing After Burner Climax on PSN and XBLA later this year.  You can check out the first full trailer above, but be warned you might need a barf bag. Arguably one of the weakest elements of current video game releases is the habit of treating the in-game story as an afterthought. Even those games with a strong narrative structure still seem afraid to venture past the clichéd and the commonplace when setting out their story, no matter how adventurous the setting they have created for it.

Thankfully, THQ seems set on changing that for the upcoming Easter European shooter Metro 2033. Based on a novel originally, the publisher has expressed how important the story is in a short interview with video gaming site Destructoid.

Good news for everyone who didn’t buy GTA IV on Xbox 360 – Rockstar have announced that Episodes from Liberty City, the double-pack of expansions for GTA IV, will be released for PlayStation 3 and PC on March 30, 2010. It’s been a long time coming, but finally the previous Xbox 360-exclusive content is near. From the brief press release, the entirety of which can be found after the break, it would seem that there isn’t much in the way of additions to the expansions since their release on the Xbox 360, but PC players can once again make use of the surprisingly deep and intuitive video editor that shipped with the original game.

The two expansions, The Lost and the Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony respectively, both offer a reasonable amount of additional play time through new missions, side missions, weapons, vehicles, music and even cheats. While the pricing has yet to be released, it’s expected to be similar to the Xbox 360′s pricing of around $20.00 separately or some kind of package deal. Read more… »

It has been known for some time that a non-profit, fan created 3D remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is in the works.  While this is a long and difficult process, “MithosKuu” (the person behind the remake) has been keeping a running blog of the games progress, and things are starting to come together.

As of this past Monday, the finishing touches were going in to what Mithos believed to be the final house interior. Read more… »

Today developer Valve released some details about its Steam service, specifically pertaining to how its user base grew in 2009.

According to Valve Steam now has over 25 million active accounts, a 25% increase from 2008. Another note worthy statistic is that software sales on Steam increased by over 205% during 2009, “marking the fifth straight year the platform has realized over 100% year-over-year growth in unit sales.”  Read more… »

Well as you can probably tell there was a positive reaction to my first L4D2 scavenge guide, so I figured I better make good on my promise and get going on Part II. If you happened to miss out on Part 1 of my guide, click here.

While my last guide focused on helpful, general tips for beginners, this guide will go slightly more in depth with map specific strategies for three of the most popular maps (Dead Center, Dark Carnival, and The Parish) and more advanced tips and tricks. Like the previous guide, I’ve split this one into three sections: Survivor tips, Infected tips, and map guides. Read more… »
