PSP Spider-man

To go along with the recent release of LittleBigPlanet on the PSP, Sony decided to send out a mass email advertising its upcoming PSP LBP accessory pack.  Nothing too extravagant: a Sackboy case, a new strap, and some stickers.  The bottom of the image, however, says something odd:

“For series PSP-1000, PSP-2000, PSP-3000, PSP-4000, and PSPgo.”  The PSP-4000 hasn’t been announced (or even mentioned) by Sony yet.  The PSPgo came out less than three months ago, and now they’re already planning on bringing out another iteration?  Sigh…

See the ad for yourself after the jump.  Maybe it’s a typo.  Probably not.

LBP Accessory Pack

Good job, Sony.

The conjecture on the subject is that the PSP-4000 will essentially render the PSPgo useless by featuring Bluetooth and the PSPgo’s built-in flash memory, while also offering a UMD drive to play the hundreds of games that you just can’t download off the PlayStation Store.

We’ll let you know of any further developments, and see if Sony will really shoot themselves in the foot like this (again).

  1. or maybe its just their way to get a survey done from impressions such as whether it’d be accepted only 3 months after psp go…oh wait we’re talking about sony they’re not that smart…

  2. Huh. I was thinking about picking up a PSP-3000 for Xmas too. Looks like I’m holding off for now!

  3. I’m saving all of my laughter until this is officially announced so that I can release it all in the world’s most glorious guffaw.

Fyi this wasn’t from Sony. It was on an advert (I found one in MCV) by a company called Accessories4technology who sell licensed products.

Not sure where the mention of Bluetooth and built-in flash comes from?

    “The conjecture on the subject”

    From conjecture of course!

  6. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a PSP-4000 in the works, as Sony doesn’t seem to have a clue what they are doing with the PSP at all.

  7. An HD psp is LOOOOOOONG overdue. Maybe this 4000 model will feature HD

  8. I doubt its a HD PSP. If anything, its gonna have that second analog stick. And if not, then it’s simply another failure.

  9. I’ll say, Sony still hasn’t given me any reason to replace my 1000 model

  10. The resolution on the tiny little screen wouldn’t benefit much from HD, and a second analog stick would divide the fanbase by having new games that can’t be played on old PSPs because they require dual sticks. Maybe pull a DSi and add a built-in camera. If they don’t ADD something instead of take something away this time, it’ll just make us lose even more faith in Sony. At least their PS3 exclusives are finally picking up…
