The Silent Hill series has always been about the parallel existence of two dimensions: the real and the nightmare. While scares are plentiful in the real world, the true horrors begin in the bloody, hellish realm.

Similarly, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a game that enhances the split of the two worlds more so than any previous game in the series. So, does this dualism work in the game’s favor, or against it?

Piece of Heart header

A few months back, it was suggested that Gamer Limit host a video game marathon for charity.  And why not?  It’d give us an excuse to hang out with other writers, stay up all night playing video games, and – best of all – raise money for a worthwhile cause.

Thus, Piece of Heart was concocted by the twisted minds behind the scenes of your favorite gaming website.  Other marathons had been attempted before (the Mario Marathon springs to mind), but this one was unique.  Two teams, one American and one Australian, race to complete the five main Ratchet & Clank games within a grueling 48-hour period.  The winner gets bragging rights and the ability to make the fallacious claim that we helped the children more by being better at video games.

Long story short, we made our goal and raised $1,005 dollars for Child’s Play.  But the actual marathon… now that was something else.  Follow me on a magical journey as I take you on one gamer’s Piece of Heart adventure.

Last night on the Spike TV 2009 Video Game Awards, Rocksteady shocked everyone by announcing a sequel to their immensely popular Arkham Asylum.  After some intense analyzation of the world premier trailer, people have possibly figured out the game’s setting and one of it’s boss villains.

It appears that Arkham Asylum has grown, and now encompasses a huge walled-off ruined section of Gotham City.  During the trailer, the camera pans by the Penguin’s Iceberg Lounge, which could mean the long time villain plays a big role in the game.  Unfortunately no official details have been released, so take this all with a grain of salt.

Gamer Limit Review: QIX++

QIX2

Movies nowadays are pretty damn expensive; you’re lucky to find a decent new release theater with ticket prices less than ten dollars. Yet many people still flock to the theaters to enjoy a two hour experience, drawn by the impressive screen size and booming surround sound. The experience justifies the price even in light of its relative brevity.

QIX++, the most recent XBLA release, is similarly banking on the hope that gamers will see past its extreme brevity and find it worthy of their precious points. But is this a hope doomed to be unrealized? Read on to see whether your ten dollars are best spent here, or better utilized paying for entrance into Old Dogs.
