British Crysta

Because Microsoft points, filling your PlayStation Wallet, American dollars, and yen are just too complicated for online game payments, Square Enix has invented its own currency.  No, not gil.

It’s called Crysta, and it will be used exclusively by Square Enix for downloading games and soundtracks off of their websites and microtransactions in Square Enix games.  The program is Japan-only for now, but it will hit the States soon enough.

The simplest/dumbest part: one Crysta = one yen.  Instead of converting your money to something new, simply replace the yen symbol in the price tag of a Square Enix game with the Crysta symbol; it will probably look something like this.  Enjoy the future.

modern-warfare-2-no-russian

In case you missed it, Modern Warfare 2 features an infamous (optional) airport level that requires you to pose as a terrorist, and watch as your crew mows down innocent russian civilians. Matt Turner, producer of the Army of Two series, had this to say regarding the actions of his competitor’s studio:

“You’re playing a CIA agent, it’s designed to show the atrocities… it’s pretty awful and if you fail to see that side of it than you’re not getting the whole picture. That being said, I thought it took it a little far; it was pretty out there. But I like seeing that they have guts like that.”

zelda

The peanut butter and jelly sandwich has not changed much over the years.  Connoisseurs have added gourmet peanut butter or fancy jelly (passion fruit jelly anyone?), but its purpose has remained the same.  Take three ingredients, and combine them into an inexpensive and delicious sandwich.

The Legend of Zelda is the PB&J of the video game world.  The consoles are fancier and tweaks have been made, but the core idea has seen little to no innovation since the jump into the 3D realm.  Even the first DS title, Phantom Hourglass, fell prey to the series’ excessive dedication to formula.  One would think that the growing concern for the series’ longevity would generate some form of creativity.

Enter Spirit Tracks. The second installment on the DS takes advantage of the handheld’s gadgets and gizmos, but it clings to aging gameplay like an old man bent over his walking cane. Read more… »
