psn-store

Christmas is about to plague us all, and so to celebrate the PSN store has been blessed with a smattering of stocking fillers, some free and some not so free. Highlights include some playable demos for Bayonetta and Topatoi, some downloadable content for Fight Night Round 4 and Operation Flashpoint, along with some generous free gifts for Need For Speed: Shift, Eyepet and LittleBigPlanet. Speaking of which, there is also a playable demo of the newly released PSP rendition of LittleBigPlanet.

And yes, you guessed it, there’s also the rudimentary overdose of Guitar Hero 5 and Rock Band DLC.

Check out the full listing of this week’s update after the break.

Gran Turismo 5 may feel like it’s an astronomically long way away, but enthusiasts will be pleased to learn the news that the GT Academy 2010 commences on December 17th.

What’s exciting however is how the competition, whereby players in respective countries will compete against each other for the best times, will work, as it is essentially a free playable demo of Gran Turismo 5. The demo will feature a tuned version of the Nissan 350Z on a specifically customised track, which GTPlanet believes will be a portion of the Indianapolis GP Circuit.

The top 20 players of each country will  be invited to a national final event, which will then be narrowed down to an elite top 20 for the GT Academy. Successful entrants will then get an opportunity to hone their skills out on the track for real in an intensive driving course at Silverstone.

A list of eligible countries can be found after the break.

1Are you disappointed with Modern Warfare 2′s multiplayer?  Don’t worry about it, the Germans have you covered. The modding team known as Blackmonkeys have spent the last year creating their own rendition of Modern Warfare, which has rightfully been named Galactic Warfare.

The mod is set in a galaxy far, far away on the planet Tatooine. The combat focuses on battles between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire, and believe me, this is one interstellar space war you don’t want to miss. So join me after the break for the teasers.  PEW PEW!

shanghaid

This coming Monday I will be jet-setting off to China for a month of epic holidaying and video-game journalism. Will I be able to discover the holy-mecca of gaming nestled away in some Chinese back-alley, or will I just find amusing Nintendo knock-offs designed for the idiot tourist?

Well, if you follow Gamer Limit for the rest of December/January you’ll be able to find out exactly what I discover.

Quite possibly one of the few prominent new IPs under EA’s belt, Mirror’s Edge has always been referred to as ‘that title that made EA look less like Activision’. In fact, the game was free-running parkour at its innovative best. Well, fans of Faith’s first foray will be glad to know that the franchise will also leap onto the iPhone in January next year.

Head inside for other tidbits and screenshots of the iPhone iteration. Read more… »

Just in time for Christmas, the so-called ‘limited edition’ Xbox 360 Wireless Controller Arcade Game Pack was released today. While the name of the product won’t win any awards for creativity, it basically packages a fancy looking Xbox 360 Elite controller with four well-known Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) titles. Three of the four XBLA games will be inside a shiny green box, while the last being download-only.

medal of honor

Today publisher Electronic Arts announced today that it will reboot the Medal of Honor franchise, taking gamers out of WWII and into a more modern conflict.

The new game, simply dubbed Medal of Honor, will take place in “war-torn Afghanistan.” EA promises a “best-in-class single-player campaign” that draws inspiration from “real events.” To add a little credibility to EA’s promise the publisher has enlisted the help of US Special Operations Community’s Tier 1 Operators “to create the most authentic modern war experience.” Read more… »

zenoclashNormally, I wouldn’t bring attention to a sale surrounding one specific title, but in the case of Zeno Clash, I can’t emphasize it enough; this game is a must buy for $5.10.  While the time it’ll take you to complete the game is relatively short for today’s standards, the storyline is extremely riveting and very compelling.

Don’t believe me? Then take a moment to read the review.  It’ll change your mind.  Aside from that, what’s the worst that can happen?  Being out $5.10 is roughly $54.90 cheaper than Modern Warfare 2, and you’ll get two things out of it: an engaging story and provide support for an indie developer.  What’s not to like about that? Gamer Limit Review: Saw
By: | December 2nd, 2009

saw header

There’s a razor-fine line between genius and madness, and anyone familiar with the Saw movies will be aware of the possible repercussions should one bleed into the other. The films’ odd appeal lies in the creatively gruesome and torturous games to which the evil genius Jigsaw submits his victims, using his engineering prowess and cunning to force them into acts of self-mutilation, suicide, and murder. Labelled by critics as “torture porn”, some of the games are so disturbingly well thought out that they can surely have only come from someone with the dangerous combination of a slender grasp on sanity and too much time on their hands. Well, everyone needs a hobby!

When I first heard about Saw’s video game adaptation, I must admit my main concern was how the format would translate into a game, particularly in terms of story progression, and exactly how Jigsaw’s traps would come into play. Well, that was one of my main concerns; my other main concern was whether or not I could make it through this review while resisting all of the potential saw-based puns. Right, now to get my teeth into Saw to see if it does or doesn’t quite cut it. (Sorry)
