A wise man once told me: if you feel that the videogame you’re reviewing and – in turn – constantly having to play turns out to be a chore, pop in a different game. That way, your opinion on it will marinate a little better, and saturate a little less. Unashamedly, that wise man was me. Strangely enough, despite the 17 hours I’ve ventured in Paris, toting turrets and being the anti-Nazi that I am, The Saboteur never left my Xbox 360 like well-glued dynamites.

Pandemic Studios’ latest and (unfortunately) last title, The Saboteur, is an open-world sandbox title that acts as a copycat from all the other GTA-clones that came before it. You’re placed in the shoes of Irish lad Sean Devlin, a race car driver turned badass-Nazi-killing-saboteur. The Saboteur’s release this month means it’s competing with the likes of Assassins Creed 2 and that Modern first-person shooting game. So how does it exactly stack up with the rest of the big triple-A boys? Read more… »

For wannabe attorneys that need a big screen for their courtroom antics, Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright is coming to WiiWare.  According to Nobuooo, “The first trilogy is due out in early 2010 in Japan.”

Check out the debut trailer for the game above, complete with a ridiculously over-the-top Japanese family enjoying the new Wii-exclusive motion controls.  According to the final frames, pricing appears to be set at 900 points.

I believe this is an update of the Nintendo DS games with new controls…?  (Sorry, my kanji translation is a little rusty.)  Whether it’s a remake or an original entry in the series, however, it’s sure to capture the fun and charm of its handheld brethren.

The PSP Mini brand of games are intended to be short, downloadable titles that just about anybody could pickup and begin to play without much effort. Being utilized to entice the “App” obsessed community to switch from their jack-of-all-trade gadgets to the less capable PSP Go, there hasn’t been much success generating a worthwhile PSP Mini. That is, until now.

Halfbrick Studios comes bearing a delightful little stocking-stuffer right before the holidays in Blast Off, and their latest venture into the digital marketplace. It’s hard to praise or knock games that are priced less than a gallon of gasoline, but this PSP Mini definitely embodies the mini ideal, and should serve as an example for all others to strive for. When a console iteration of arguably the most accomplished PC strategy game of all time was released in the summer of last year, reactions were mixed. Many hardcore fans of the series blasted Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution for removing strategic depth, while others embraced the streamlined gameplay and console-centric control scheme.

While Civ Rev came nowhere near the commercial success of its PC brethren, it performed well enough critically and in the market to warrant a port to the iPhone. As a fan of both the PC games and Civ Rev, I was curious to see how the title performed after being shrunk down to portable size for play on the go.

Is Napoleon really holding an iPhone inside his uniform, or does this release represent the game’s Battle of Waterloo?

Time and time again I’ve harped on the fact that gamers are still waiting for a mesmerizing adaptation of a film spawning from a video game.  Wyck Godfrey, producer of the Gears of War film, took time out of his schedule to talk about his ideas.

While many still remain pessimistic that the film will butcher the video game, it is a bit comforting to see how the film will unfold.  For the video interview, please read on. Read more… »

firmware

According to the European PlayStation.Blog, the PS3 will be receiving a little Christmas firmware present just in the time for the holidays. The optional 3.15 update will allow PS3 users to play PSP Minis directly on their console. Along with bringing the Minis to a larger stage, the new firmware update will allow easy file transfer between two separate PS3 systems.

This is great news for anyone who’s had the pleasure to experience Blast Off’s addiction; hearing the awesome music in booming surround sound is enough to get excited about, but the degree of difficulty that’ll be added from the PSN’s larger community makes achieving those high scores a much more challenging and enjoyable experience.

Office Space beatdown

[Each week, our goal is to scour our news posts, Gamer Limit blogs, and our forums looking for topics that make us laugh, sit in shock, or just sit in confusion making us ask the question: WTF?  The top three stories from the Gamer Limiters who make us evoke those reactions will be featured in our brand new editorial called Three Jeers of the Week. So c'mon Limiters, if you find something interesting, let us know about it.  You could be the feature for everyone to see.]

To kick things off, I’d like to open up by asking the question: what does Australia, Asian girlfriends, and a children’s charity have in common?  Nothing really, but they did make it into Gamer Limit’s first ever Three Jeers of the Week.  So read on if you dare. Read more… »

Evolution, the premiere fighting game tournament in North America, will be held yet again in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, this year, the location is going to be the super upscale hotel/casino, Caesars Palace. In previous years, the organizers of the tournament needed to book a location and work out reservation deals with a hotel. Holding the tournament at Caesars Palace provides gamers with a venue and lodgings as close to the action as they can get.

For the uninitiated, the Evolution Championship Series is the biggest and most popular fighting game tournament in America, and possibly the world. Over the span of three days,  tournaments for at least six games are held, and competition from all over the world comes out to play. None of the games being played have been announced yet, but one can be certain that Super Street Fighter 4 and Tekken 6 will make their debut appearances. Get hype!

T6

As of today, the Tekken 6 soundtrack has been released via iTunes for your auditory pleasure.  What’s great about it is that it’ll set you back a measly $5.99 for 17 tracks.  I’m no mathematician, but that’s a lot of SONG!

Although that’s a great deal, many will be holding out for the 3-disc special.  Read on for more details. Read more… »

Diner Dash is a paradox in electronic entertainment. One would think that after a hard day of work or school, the last thing a person would do to relax is pick up a virtual shift at the local e-Denny’s. However, the popularity of the casual PC game has shown that the greasy spoon can indeed be mightier than the sword.

Now, gamers can experience the joy of getting tipped poorly by seniors from the comfort of their couches. With the PSN version of Diner Dash, developer PlayFirst aims to bring their addictive food-service frenzy to an even wider audience.

Does Diner Dash PSN serve up a Grand Slam? Follow me over the jump to find out!
