Its always abundantly clear to me I'm playing a game. Immersion is a really stupid idea.

But then I forget everyone is really stupid these days. Achivements are stupid. I hate them. Also cocks.

I really can't understand the notion that a simple pop-up can be so obtrusive to some players. The argument of "taking you out of immersion", really? I don't think you can ever be so immersed in a game, to have lost yourself to the experience so fully that such a notification would be such an outrageous jarring experience. You are still holding a controller.
Even more ludicrous is the mirroring of this achievement notification alongside Heavy Rain. The game features a vast amount of quick time event actions, so you constantly have icons and whatnots on the screen, even if they are handled well, they are still there.

And as Steven mentioned, there are many games where you need to do something precisely, and something that may take multiple attempts. If I had to assume I had done it right, complete the level and then find out, it'd be redundant.

There should (if there isn't already) be an option to hide the achievement notification. I don't think notifying you at the end of a chapter would work for a lot of games; for things that require you to do a large number of something or perform an intricate stunt it's important to be told the moment you've done it.

I think it should just be an option in every game and leave it up to the user.

This makes perfect sense for Heavy Rain, given that it's the first game to continue the story whether your character dies or not.
