Today publisher Electronic Arts announced today that it will reboot the Medal of Honor franchise, taking gamers out of WWII and into a more modern conflict.
The new game, simply dubbed Medal of Honor, will take place in “war-torn Afghanistan.” EA promises a “best-in-class single-player campaign” that draws inspiration from “real events.” To add a little credibility to EA’s promise the publisher has enlisted the help of US Special Operations Community’s Tier 1 Operators “to create the most authentic modern war experience.”
According to the press release, Medal of Honor is currently in development for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 and will arrive summer 2010. The shooter is being developed by EA Los Angeles (handling the single-player) and EA DICE (handling the multiplayer).
Sean Decker, VP and General Manager of EALA, stated: “EA has always been an advocate for telling the soldiers’ story. The new Medal of Honor follows that tradition. We felt it was important to tell the story of today’s war and today’s elite soldiers via today’s most relevant medium–videogames. We are so proud to bring together two powerhouse development teams to make this game a reality; EA Los Angeles and EA DICE. Medal of Honor promises to be an unforgettable entry in the modern shooter genre.”
More details are expected to arrive on December 12 when the “world-premier first-look” airs during the Spike TV 2009 Video Game Awards.

It was only a matter of time until someone tried to combat Modern Warfare!
Niche titles are becoming a Chinese menu. So many to choose from!
I’m very surprised to hear the press release puts more emphasis on the single-player than it does the multiplayer. Modern Warfare 1 and 2 might have good single-player experiences, but people play them for the MP. If EA wants to have a chance to compete with Activision they are going to need to get the MP right.
I wonder which massively popular series influenced them to go down that route.

I agree, the replay value on shooters in usually in the multiplayer IMO. I think it would be a mistake not to blow MW2′s multiplayer system out of the water. (which wouldn’t be hard at all, there are many free FPS’s that have better multiplayer options. Like build in clan/scrim system, stats that other people can view, ladder systems, build in tournaments, and DEDICATED SERVERS!!)
I find it ironic yet fitting that the franchise that Call of Duty killed is coming back to try and slay the new (sub)franchise Call of Duty gave birth to.
That’s awesome how Zakk Wylde is the lead character…
As long as it’s not as awful as Airborne it should be fine.
I’m with Simon – Airborne was so bad that this new one needs to be absolutely stellar.
