It’s a source of serious controversy in plenty of gaming circles, but PlayStation Home has still managed to rake in more than 10 million users since it hit open beta in 2008.
The company believes that Home should be a “core element of every studio’s marketing strategy”.
Read on to hear what Dan Hill, business manager for SCEE, had to say on this recent milestone.
“PlayStation Home is fast becoming the meeting place of choice between users and developers. Every new game space enhances the overall experience for consumers, offering more variety, more choice and more enjoyment from a PlayStation Home session. The more game spaces there are, the better it gets, and the number of spaces keeps on growing. For developers, there’s no better way of driving interest in their titles than giving fans a hands-on, interactive experience based around the game itself. A game space in PlayStation Home ought to be a core element of every studio’s marketing strategy for new titles.”
The entire notion of such an advertisement-driven social networking system is a hub for in-depth discussion. What are your thoughts on PlayStation Home in general, and for the future?

I personally believe Sony is fudging the numbers a bit. I believe that 10 million people have at one time signed into Home to see what it’s like, but I don’t believe that all those people still sign in.
I bet the number of people who sign in on a daily basis is so low that Sony would be embarassed to share the numbers with the public.
I haven’t logged into it since it first released, but reading that its grown so much i’ll have to check it out when my downloads finish.
I agree with Shawn. 10 million total signups, maybe. Active users, no way.
I was thinking the same, Shawn.
I concur with Shawn. Although the idea of having game space for an upcoming title sounds more tantalizing than visiting a website. I found Home to be too realistic with the way people only talk to their friends and would rather ask me to leave than spark up a conversation, just like real life.
I uninstalled this piece a few weeks after release, and never looked back.
My only experience with this was making an avatar that looked like Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords. The resemblance was uncanny. The experience was still completely unfun.
