Battlefield 1943 is $7 today
By: Andrew Kauz | December 31st, 2009

19431 540x230 Battlefield 1943 is $7 today

Go buy it?

Pardon my hesitance. Hell, Battlefield 1943 is a lovely little downloadable title, and I tossed a bunch of time into it, running like an idiot across huge maps, driving jeeps into tanks and somehow being surprised at the results, and attempting to take down tanks armed with nothing more than a pistol. All great fun, I assure you, but in a world that now knows the glory of Modern Warfare 2, I can’t help but think that the online community for this is somewhat lacking. But at 600 MS points ($7.50), it might be worth a shot – just don’t expect to play this without some buddies.

Actually, this sale takes me back to the day of my first Battlefield 1943 match, and the hilarity that immediately ensued. Hit the jump to cue the Wayne’s-World-style flashback sequence – one that might just sway your decision.

puzzle 0 Gamer Limit Review: Puzzlegeddon XBLA

As one of the oldest and most venerated genres, puzzle games would appear on the surface to have the greatest potential for stagnation. However, every time it appears we’ve moved on, a new craze shows up to reinvigorate our interest in bite-sized brain benders. From classics, like Tetris to Bejeweled, to the recent crazes of Peggle and Puzzle Quest, the genre continually demonstrates its staying power.

Since the explosion of the casual market, more and more developers are hoping to capitalize on the recent resurgence in the popularity of the genre. With its recent release of Puzzlegeddon on XBLA, developer Pieces Interactive brings some new ideas to the table in the hopes of becoming the next link in the great chain of successful puzzle games.

Does this game live up to its name? Follow me over the jump to discover if playing Puzzlegeddon results in the annihilation of the world in a fiery detonation of multi-colored blocks!

Modern Warfare 2: Mythbusters
By: Ashley King | December 28th, 2009

It seems like every day there are more and more glitches popping up in popular games with outcries of, “Screenshot or it didn’t happen!” and other such cries for proof. The Defend The House Clan, or DTHClan for short, is stepping up to the plate with a series of videos surrounding popular “myths” in the latest addition to the Call of Duty family.

The video explores such things as knifing mirrors in the barber shop and exploding planes with the Predator missile from the game. Some of them are quite outlandish, while others are easy to believe and can finally put the rest the cries of, “That’s not true, because it didn’t happen to me.”

While most developers are still on holiday, the good folks over at BioWare are hard at work. How do i know this? Today the developer released a new ‘Developer Dispatch’ video discussing Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Specifically this video discusses the design decision behind the game’s dark side characters. Apparently there are two Sith classes, the sorcerer-esque Inquisitor (think Emperor Palpatine) and the Lightsaber welding Sith Warrior à la Darth Vader. According to the video, the Sith Warrior  is you go to guy when it comes to direct confrontation. The Inquisitor, on the other hand, is better suited for the political war.

ff1 540x205 Gamer Limit Review: Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain

Dungeon Crawlers are like the cockroaches of the gaming world (in a good way): despite how archaic they are, they never seem to really die. Considering they were one of the first genres ever created, back when most games were just lines of text, perhaps old fans will never grow tired of them.

Fighting Fantasy is one of the few old-school crawlers released this year. So how did it turn out? Does the new franchise recruit some potential new fans, or does it just stick to the same alienating crawler mechanics that dedicated fans know and love? Read more… »
