Ever wondered what the hell Scrat was doing all that time you were watching Ice Age? Maybe not, but for those who were, developers Two Tribe aim to lay the rumours to rest. The fiendish furball’s finally got his own adventure, and it’s a good thing the game’s in safe hands.
Two Tribe, known for their critically acclaimed WiiWare title Toki Tori, explains why Scrat is just plain awesome right after the jump.
In a recent interview with AppGamer, Collin Van Ginkel – Creative Director at Two Tribes – explains in depth why the app’s launching nearly half a year later than the film. The following are extracts from the interview.
Ice Age in a nutshell (pardon the pun)…
Players take control of Scrat as he works his way through the events of the third movie. Scrat has a wide range of moves; from climbing, hanging from the ceiling, heaving blocks, breaking ice to floating in tar
bubbles and much more.
On creating a videogame based on a movie license…
We absolutely stand by the quality of this game. Instead of using a license as an excuse to dump a low quality game, we have used the Ice Age universe to add to the overall quality and presentation of the game. So in short; the gameplay stands on its own and the fact that it uses the great characters from the movies is a nice bonus!
On why the game is arriving just now…
The release of the iPhone game is tied to the release of the DVD and Blu-Ray versions of the movie.
There you have it. I’m expecting more than just some run-of-the-mill cash-in, considering Two Tribes’ reputation.
