Permanent ban for Xbox modders

Frustrated gamer

In a stunning move by the gaming giant, Microsoft has permanently cut off as many as one million Xbox 360 owners from their Xbox LIVE accounts. Any and all banned machines will be “unable to connect to Xbox LIVE,” Microsoft told the BBC.

In an age where modded systems are no longer housed in seedy, underground gaming dens, it should come as no surprise that Microsoft has decided to take such a firm hand in dealing with these pirates.

psn-store

It’s another light load this week on the storefront, but who honestly cares? Everyone is too engrossed committing airport massacres in a certain war game. Argh, that’s yet another post clogging up the homepage that mentions that game. Oh well.

For those like myself who don’t have such distractions (yes I’m waiting until Christmas), this week’s shallow PSN update can be found after the break.

Facebook

Status update! As if it didn’t already hold enough dominance on people’s inane interweb lives, Facebook will also soon be infesting your PS3 if these leaked screenshots are to be believed.

The images, accidentally published on the official PlayStation website, clearly depict a new Facebook icon integrated into the XMB, along with additional hints of the ability to edit gamercards and a new XMB based photo browser. Coincidentally, a new 3.10 firmware update has also been rumored for release on November 19, but Sony has stated that there will be further information “very shortly.”

You can find the diminutive screenshots after the break. Could this be Sony’s first steps for catching up with Microsoft’s nesting in the social networking family tree?

Why The Wii Failed

Do I have your attention yet? I thought so. Let me start by saying that this article is by no means intended to be a dig at the evolution of consoles, nor the legions of fans that swear by the Wii. Rather, I aim to look at how Nintendo managed to shun a large majority of its gamers by creating a casual, and ultimately boring, next-gen system.

Come with me as I attempt to uncover how a corporation with such an esteemed history could shirk its obligations to its fan base. Let’s find out just how the Wii became a “what could have been” console.

modern-warfare-2

Finally, after months of waiting, “the most anticipated game of the year” is here. Surrounded by controversy on one side, and hype on the other, Modern Warfare 2 has gamers asking one question: “is it worth my money?”

The short answer is yes. MW2 is a crisp first-person shooter that features some of the best visuals that can be seen on current generation consoles, as well as the same intense action and tight narrative that we’ve come to expect from the Call of Duty franchise. Read more… »

If memorizing the ten commandments was a little too tricky, or you simply didn’t cut it with the Sunday school kids, then you’ll be pleased to find out that there is no longer a need to put down the controller for divine forgiveness.

That’s right, the Xbox 360 has become far too sinful in recent years, and B&H Publishing Group has just the application to fix it: Bible Navigator X.

Read on to discover what the company had to say about their immaculate conception.

borderlands

Mike Neumann, creative director on Borderlands (PC/X360), told VG247 in an interview that a sequel for Borderlands 2 is a possibility.  He elaborated that there isn’t anything set in stone yet since they are working on the DLC for numero uno.

Neumann said, “Yes, I can probably confirm that there’s a chance of a Borderlands 2 [laughs]. I mean, with anything, especially a new IP, if people want more and you can make more, and everybody can make money and do good business there, it obviously makes really good sense to do that.” Read more… »

MW3

In the heat of becoming the best selling game of all time, it seems that Modern Warfare 2‘s immense popularity has caused a bit of a strain on its servers, as attempts to join a game online are currently proving futile for eager gamers.

Infinity Ward have commented by saying that these issues should be addressed in a forthcoming firmware patch scheduled for release by this Friday for the PS3, but there has been no word for the 360 as of yet. Until then, it seems that players will have to suffer the hardship of racking up the hours in the single player campaign mode instead.

If you have any heart wrenching stories of your plight or have any updates on the situation, then feel free to tip us.

Edit: the issue has reportedly been resolved for the PS3, meaning you can now play online but still have to wait for the upcoming patch for party play.
