Whilst the UK Gamer Limit team may be slightly more undermanned than the Australians, we still managed to get at least one of our limey butts down to Eurogamer Expo in London. The event was also held in Leeds, but really, who would want to go to Leeds?

I may have been slightly disappointed at the lack of free t-shirts, but I still got to play some games, so read on to find out about various titles like Bayonetta, Heavy Rain and Left 4 Dead 2. Read more… »

Machiavelli's Ascent banner 2

[Every Wednesday Gamer Limit scours the underbelly of the internet to bring you the finest releases from the indie scene, check back each week to see what we recommend. Feel free to check out our full schedule right here!]

Indie games don’t have multi-million dollar budgets.  They don’t have bleeding-edge technology and cutscenes rivaling the processed beauty of Pixar movies.  They don’t try to mash five different genres together in a tired attempt to be innovative just for the sake of innovation.

The best indie games, however, have focus.  They do one thing, and they do it well.  Machiavelli’s Ascent on Xbox Live Indie Games is one such example.

Flying Solo

Is it just me, or did every gamer suddenly impregnate themselves with the seed of Microsoft, give birth to the ultimate gaming buddy, and then start smashing Halo 3 co-op on legendary?

When did this unquenchable thirst to complete games in co-operative mode reach such stellar heights?

In this editorial, I aim to look at how countless developers are attempting to distance themselves from the archaic single player format and encourage a fully co-operative experience for the gamers. Read on to hear the sad tale of a man who missed the co-op boat.

So you got Wii Sports Resort.  You’ve had your fun with the 1:1 motion controls and the mini-games.  But now what?

Miyamoto to the rescue!  In a recent interview with Wired, he declared the extent to which the next Legend of Zelda game will use the device.

It’s a lot.  So much so, that MotionPlus will probably be required to play it at all.

Borderlands_E32009_1

[Feel free to check out Christopher Matulich's review of the Xbox 360 version.]

Are you tired of playing first person shooters that pigeonhole you into using the same old small selection of weapons?   Do you believe in the old saying that you “don’t need to be a better shot, you just need to shoot more bullets?”   Are you constantly yearning for wide open spaces on distant alien worlds inhabited by talking robots, bandits, and secret alien artifacts?

If any of the above apply, then you need to grab your mouse and keyboard and take a seat, as I tell you about the wonderful world of Borderlands.  Make sure you grab three of your closest friends though, because you won’t want to go on this journey alone. But if you don’t have any friends, don’t worry.  You’re only going to have about a bazillion guns to keep you company. Read more… »

BillsHat

Today Valve announced another pre-order incentive for Left 4 Dead 2. If you pre-order the co-op zombie shooter off of Steam or redeem a retailer-provided pre-order code, you will receive a new hat for your Team Fortress 2 characters.

To be specific the hat is Bill’s beret from Left 4 Dead. According to the TF2 Blog, “This is not fan fiction! This is not a dream sequence! The characters from Team Fortress 2 will team-up with Bill’s hat from Left 4 Dead 1!”

To find out how these two worlds collided, read on. Read more… »

Arctic Edge

With two critically acclaimed games under its heaving bonnet, the MotorStorm series has become one of the most reputable racing games for the PlayStation 3, thanks to its unique brand of automotive anarchy. And now, after the success of last year’s MotorStorm Pacific Rift, the franchise has taken an interesting detour into the depths of your pocket, the PSP.

Does Arctic Edge follow in its big brother’s tire treads, or does it suffer from frostbite in its transition to the PlayStation Portable platform?

Now that we’ve entered what I like to call “super-happy-go-funtime,” or commonly known as the holiday rush, many are planning on how to spend what meager cash they have on the impressive quality and quantity of titles that have been released or will be in the weeks forthcoming. I’m sure many are saving for Infinity Ward’s behemoth Modern Warfare 2, BioWare’s return to a dark fantasy in Dragon Age: Origins, or Naughty Dog’s masterpiece Uncharted 2. It certainly is a “tough” time to be a gamer.

However, because of these gaming giants, many titles will undoubtedly fall under the radar and not garner the attention they deserve. Enter Torchlight, an IP from the creative minds behind FATE and Mythos, and one such game thats burrowed itself away from the public eye. Yet, one that is determined to discard its shroud in a blaze of glory and ignite its torch with the respect and praise it rightly deserves. Read more… »

The Limitcast returns as special guest Curtis Takaichi joins Josh, Chase, Chris, and Paul on their epic journey to locate the gaming promised land. This week Paul details his experiences at Eurogamer Expo, having played such titles as God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Left 4 Dead 2, MAG and many others.

Stay tuned later in the show as the crew attempts to wrap their collective minds around the interpretation of games as art. Do they qualify? Does it matter? Will Chase ever be a worthwhile human being?

Electronic Arts have released an old favourite of mine, Command and Conquer for the iPhone. You are able to download and play C&C for £5.99 on the AppStore.

The touch screen on the iPhone can be used to scroll around the battlefield, zoom in and out and move units. There are 12 combat levels that you can play through as the Soviets or Allies, including 2 maps in skirmish mode.

Just Dance

It may not have been my most anticipated title at iDEF, but I certainly gave Ubisoft’s upcoming Wii game, Just Dance, a fair go. I sold what little pride I had left to the eGames booth babes simply to entertain you fine Gamer Limit readers.

While I won’t be hailing it as the “greatest release since Guitar Hero” any time soon, you can hit the jump and read my thoughts on the game. Oh, and see the ridiculously embarrassing video – but you don’t have to watch that.
