It seems that Modern Warfare 2 can’t keep away from controversy. At first it was the lack of dedicated servers. This was followed by the controversial “Fight Against Grenade Spam” video. Then there was the leaked scene where you can kill civilians. Now digital distributors Direct2Drive, GamersGate, and Impulse are refusing to carry the game.

Why? Apparently these distributors aren’t fans of Steam. According to a statement from Direct2Drive, “We believe strongly that when you buy a game from us, you shouldn’t be forced to install and run a 3rd party software client to be able to play the game you purchased.” The company went on to say “We don’t believe games should force the user to install a Trojan Horse.” Read more… »

Chinatown Wars

When it was launched earlier this year, Chinatown Wars was met with biting bewilderment for one reason: it was exclusive to your sister’s brightly coloured (and most likely plastered beyond recognition with hateful Pokemon stickers) Nintendo DS, a console more renowned for cooking sausages than slaughtering pedestrians.

But then something even more remarkable happened. Not even the harshest of critics could defecate over it, touting the game as a supreme adaptation which pushed the DS beyond its crude capabilities. Unfortunately, everyone was too preoccupied with cooking sausages, resulting in a disappointing sales slump. And so, after being rid of its DS exclusivity binds, here we are now with Chinatown Wars on the PSP. Read more… »

Was this a surprise? Not really. This is, after all, Call of Duty and Guitar Hero; quite possible two of the most popular franchises in the current-gen. Well, it was still endearing to hear it from Activision themselves. We really don’t blame them for their money-milking ways.

Stealth kill your way inside to see what Activision had to say. Read more… »

Maybe it’s the particular crusade I personally have against Activision, but then again, it might not be. It just may be that developers these days aren’t as money hungry, and that they actually want to create quality products without milking their games. Sure, Guitar Hero 5 is good and all, and Left 4 Dead 2 does look kickass; but sequels aren’t always necessary.

Media Molecule thinks a LittleBigPlanet sequel would be counterproductive; kindly stroll inside and see why. Read more… »

It comes at no surprise that Mass Effect 2 will be getting a Collector’s Edition, you know, considering it’s probably going to be one of the most hyped games of next year. What will be a surprise to you all though, is that BioWare have been rather generous with the pricing of its planetary stallion. Compared to Modern Warfare 2‘s price, let’s just say it’s relatively cheaper.

Head inside for the full ladidadida. Yes, that means details and the box art in one slab. Read more… »

superstreetfighter4-1

Even as someone who is into fighting games as a competitive medium, I still find myself strangely excited about this news! This week’s issue of Famitsu revealed that Super Street Fighter 4 will see a return of the bonus stages of Street Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 3. The ‘wreck the car’ bonus stage is practically confirmed, but we have yet to see what other bonus stages will be included.

And, for those of you who were hoping for less kitschy news, we’ve got some of that, too. When SSF4 was first announced, it was announced that there would be improvements to online play. The Famitsu article also provided the first news of what new online modes we can expect from the new and improved online experience.
