Welcome to “What Are YOU Playing?”, a new community outreach program by Gamer Limit, where we encourage everyone from staff to passer-by to tell us not only what you’ve been playing the past week, but what you plan on playing in the week to come.

To kick off this episode, I feel like I’m the only person on Earth who is avidly enjoying Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, which is actually a really solid action RPG.  The Kingdom Hearts series in general gets a pretty bad rap for being convoluted, but I just respond by staring at the nay-sayers blankly, and saying “but it has Beast in it!”

And seriously, how can you argue with that? Is there another recent game you’ve enjoyed quietly (or loudly, for that matter)? Let us know below!

  1. I’ll kick things off:

In addition to playing tons of Kingdom Hearts 358/2, I’ve been constantly going back to Demon’s Souls, and can’t get enough of it.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 has also been fun on online, and I can’t wait to grab all of Fallout 3′s DLC packs on PS3.

Oh and I almost forgot: I picked up Mega Man ZX and ZX Advent for the DS. Great games!

  2. This week, whenever THESIS.doc hasn’t been open, my time has been dedicated to FIFA 10. I thought that soccer games had long since left behind people like me – people who need to be coached on how to play, who don’t know the difference between Ronaldo and a turnip, people who love the idea of a soccer game but aren’t exactly knowledgeable about the ins and outs of the sport.

FIFA 10 is the first soccer game I’ve really enjoyed since Pro Evo 4, as it seems to recognize that there are simpletons like me out there. But it doesn’t simply leave me to struggle. Every game of FIFA 10 feels like an education on the ebb and flow of soccer. Rather than simply presenting me with a beautiful game and expecting me to figure out how to woo it (as FIFA 09 did for me), it seems to be actively trying to seduce me. And it’s worked – I’m completely won over.

Other than that, I’ve been playing a bit of Scribblenauts. The conceptual genius beats out the irritation, but not by as much as I would have liked.

I’ve been playing through Oblivion, and have Fallout 3 GOTY on its way. I’m really looking forward to Dragon Age: Origins, and will probably drop Fallout for a while when it comes out. If I had a PS3 I would be all over Demon’s Souls.

I’ve also been playing a little Scribblenauts here and there.

Oh yeah, and for some reason I’m sort of tempted to play through Brutal Legend. I played the demo and I loved the fact that there are huge bosses (kind of reminded me of Devil May Cry in that regard).

  4. @Dark
I’m all over everything you mentioned. I just picked up the Shivering Isles expansion recently, and haven’t gotten around to it.

  5. I’m really getting into FIFA10 at the moment (stay tuned for Simon’s review coming very soon) – I’m not usually a sports game fan, but damn, it’s very well done!

  6. This past week I’ve been pretty busy so not a lot of gaming has been going down. What little I did sneak in was mostly Left 4 Dead, League of Legends beta and Street Fighter IV.

This next week I plan on playing through Risen for review (depending on when it arrives).

  7. I’ve been into Resident Evil 5 PC as of late, and I’ll be starting AI War: Fleet Command later today. Also, NBA2K10 for the PC comes out in five days, so I’m getting super pumped for that.

Being virtually the only Clipper fan, I’m telling you now, this year is going to be different!

  8. I’ve been enjoying Dissidia and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. Dead Space Extraction’s also been satisfying, and Order of War is surprisingly fun, given the WW2 genre has been trodden many times already.

  9. With an overloaded class schedule, 2 languages, and work it’s been hard for me to get around to doing fun things.

I’ve been playing Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days as well. I was sceptical at first, but I enjoy the mission based game play. It’s easy to pick up for 30 minutes at a time, but you still get the broader RPG elements. I approve!
I’ve also been playing some Left 4 Dead and revisiting Fallout 3 on the weekends.

    @Chris Carter

Just for the record, the only reason I’m willing to drop Fallout for a while is because I played through about 70% of the game on PC. I’m buying the GOTY for the 360. I’m sure I’ll get some flack about that decision, but what can I say?

I bought the GOTY Oblivion for the 360 so I’ve already got everything I need there!

If I had all the time in the world then I would be playing through more things, but you know, have to work to pay for the whole gaming hobby. I’d love to find some time to play The Another World when it’s released!

  11. I’ve 40+ hours deep in 358/2 Days, can’t get me enough of it. I’m about to start a second playthrough of Mass Effect so I can have me a renegade save all set and ready for the sequel. I also just finished Mario and Luigi, and that game was absolutely amazing. A must buy for anyone who owns a DS.

  12. Bowser’s Inside Story, that is.

  13. RL, work, and school is taking its toll on me this week :(

I have been playing Dungeon Hunter on the iPhone, Obscure for the PSP for review, and as much Mass Effect as I have time play. Also, my Madden online franchise games here and there.

This week I plan on finishing off Mass Effect with 100% completion. And beating Uncharted one last time before Tuesday! Can’t wait! :)

  14. Even though I just got a brand new PSPgo, I haven’t really been playing it much. Instead I have spent most of my time playing Halo 3:ODST, which I beat this past weekend. I’m still looking for some people to play the firefight mode with, so if you are interested please let me know.

I’ve also been playing Dead Space: Extraction, which I plan on reviewing for the site in the next day or so. I addition to that I’ve put a couple hourse into God of War: Chains of Olympus on the PSP.

Next week I’m leaving completely open for UNCHARTED 2!!!!!!!

So what’s the big deal with FIFA 2010? I played a little of ’09, but not too much. Is it really that much better?

  16. PSP! Bathroom breaks are all the time I have for gaming. Prinny (clunky), WTF: Work Time Fun (tedious), Jumping Flash (ugh PS1 graphics), and Rock Band: Unplugged (magically delicious).

Also, a little Halo 3 multiplayer when friends are over. Who needs ODST?

  17. As for this week, I’m still playing Mario and Luigi Bowser’s Inside Story. I restarted The World Ends with You because Megumi Kitaniji was kicking my ass six ways from Sunday. On my 360 I’m playing Resident Evil 5 (First RE game and a lot better than I thought), Ninja Gaiden 2 ( Harder than I thought ), Saints Row 2 ( Also better than I thought) and Street Fighter 4 ( 360 has a shitty D-Pad, but I still kick ass with Ryu). Next week I intend to spend the majority of my time with Uncharted 2 and Brutal Legend if I can afford it.

    @Chris

Another reason why Kingdom Hearts is because it gives you the opportunity the beat the frack out of Cloud ( at least in my book anyway ). I understand his situation, but It seriously wouldn’t kill him to smile every once in a while would it ?

  18. Heroes of Newerth! (New Magebane best character!)
Elves Legacy, pretty fun turn bases strat.

  19. FIFA 10, FIFA 10, FIFA 10.

Oh, and about to get into The Path. I’m anticipating great things.

  20. Fifa 10; A whole lot of awesome, even though I don’t normally play football games.
Disgaea DS; I’m still addicted to this, been unlocking all the simple classes, help me cut this loose…
Red Faction Guerilla; aka Mason: The Friendly Terrorist, never felt so much “meh” when playing a game since I played Sir Meh goes to Meh-Town. Oh wait, also any DotA game, that’s a lot of meh too.
Operation Flashpoint 2; Got it this morning, man it’s awesome, with so much pew pew, and argh I’m bleeding, and then you drive into a wall, and someone shoots you and you die…
Juiced 2; Been quite interested in this studio lately, so thought I’d check out thir latest offering. It’s fun, I guess, distracting at times, but the DNA system is pretty darn nifty.

  21. Just got finished with inFamous on my brand new shiny PS3 slim.
Thats a hell of a game. Also a few iPhone games, zombie pizza…not so good

  22. Blue Dragon. Yes, Blue Dragon. The game was in the bargain bin for $12 AUD, how could I resist? That’s like $4 for one freakin’ disc.

Then you’ve got the review copies I’ve been handed to, yes you guessed it, review. Halo 3: ODST, DiRT 2, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 and WET. Awarded Halo a 7/10, the rally racer a 9.0/10 and Marvel: UA2 an 8.5/10.

As for WET, someone took over my duties and I didn’t have to do anything. Sweet! Average game though, unfortunately :(

  23. I’m currently playing Mirror’s Edge, trying to work on those dreaded time trials. Next week I’m looking forward to picking up Brutal Legend. That game is going to be great!

  24. Chase and I recently invented a sport called “Rocket Tag” in Crackdown.

    Good times.

  25. @Josh
I’d be down for that sometime!

  26. The PSP minis version of Tetris and that’s it!

My PS3 is dead. Just wait til you read about the whole sordid affair soon. :(

  27. In the last 2 weeks I’ve completed Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, Gears Of War, Gears Of War 2, Shadow Complex, Mass Effect. I’m now playing Halo: ODST, and Fable 2.
Then I’m going back to PS3 for Uncharted 2, and I also picked up Fifa 10.

Fallout 3 (all downloads) up until the 360 died, Folklore on PS3 (great for 5 bucks), NeverwinterNight2 (whole collection). Yeah with the xbox lost I realized I stopped buying games for the other consoles. That is going to change soon!

  29. Haven’t actually replied to this yet, but I’ve been playing Uncharted 2 all day and will continue to do so tomorrow as well.

Also been playing Critter Crunch, great game! :)
