Transmission Games

In a recent development, it has been revealed that Transmission Games, a popular Australian studio based in Melbourne, has shut its doors.

Kotaku Australia has reported that, after losing several lucrative publishing contracts, the firm was forced to lay off more staff. Today, the studio shut its doors, with all workers being made redundant.

Although no official statement has been made by Transmission Games, Kotaku believes that the company “went into liquidation this morning and an administrator has been appointed.”

Transmission Games, formerly IR Gurus, has brought us such titles as Heroes Over Europe, Ashes Cricket 2009, and the AFL Live series.

I imagine that with the oppressive state of the gaming that Australia currently seems to be under (if your lost at this point just look at L4D2’s status in Australia and what happened with fallout 3…) and the costs associated with games it was only a matter of time until a company failed. It’s unfortunate that they lost those contracts and I’m quite sure it’s yet another reason for aussies to be even more angry with the state of gaming in their country.

Cricket games are not really mainstream for sports games, I am not that surprised. It is never nice to see game studios disappearing although.

Hopefully the staff will all get re-employed quickly.
