When I first heard the next game in the blood and gore filled Dead Space series would be a Wii exclusive, I thought the developers from Visceral Games had lost their mind.  Why would you take a mature game, which launched on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, and then move away from its fan base to develop the prequel on a system which caters to soccer moms and kids?

Well have no fear, because Dead Space: Extraction is not your typical Wii title.  Visceral Games made sure that nothing was lost in the translation, keeping the game true to its survival horror series roots.  If you’ve been looking for a more mature title to give you a reason to dust off your Wii, or if you are a fan of the Dead Space series, you should read on to find out more about this gory good time.  Read more… »

I have to preface this review by saying that I’m a huge Where’s Waldo fan. Ever since I was in grade school, the thrill of finding some striped British dude amongst a rambunctious crowd was second to none.

Well, Waldo has been mysteriously absent from the video game scene for the past thirteen years. Can a simultaneous Wii, DS, and PC release suddenly make the old chap relevant again? Read more… »

[Free-Game Friday is a new weekly feature in which a writer from the GamerLimit staff looks at a completely free game and discusses their experience with it, allowing you to download it at the end. Feel free to check out our full schedule right here!]

Knytt Stories was not what I expected. A minimalistic, short length platformer with your usual fixings, I was prepared for a lighthearted, pixelated adventure – not so much to ask from a freeware game.

As it turns out, Knytt Stories, a creation of indie game designer Nifflas, provides something entirely different. The game makes an excellent case for video games as a form of artistic expression. Yes, Knytt Stories presents the player with a goal and a variety of unlock-able tools for achieving it. Yet the real appeal of this game lies in the experience that it creates.

You just can’t get enough Dragon Age content injected into your veins, can you? It seems like every week we get a new boss trailer: sooner or later, we’ll know how to beat them all before we even get our hands on the game!

This particular video features the Broodmother, a hideous creature that lives below the Dwarves’ place of residency. It looks a lot like the creature from Blade to me, but feel free check out the trailer and see for yourself!

While release dates of games constantly change from game to game, once it’s gone gold, you know it’s on the way.

Keeping the same release date of October 27th in the US, one of the people on the Insomniac team also threw in some additional information for those hungry to hear more about Ratchet and Clank‘s new adventure.

Critter Crunch has finally arrived this week, and is a must-have for those who enjoy puzzle-type games. The final Fallout 3 expansion packs have also made it to the PSN, as well as DLC offerings for IL2 Sturmovik: Bird of Prey and Dirt 2. Lastly, the newest edition of Pulse is out this month, as well as your usual fare of game trailers, themes and Rockband/Guitar Hero downloadable tracks.

The PSP update is quite small however,  with NBA 10 THE INSIDE and NBA LIVE 10 being the only PSP games released. It’s a surprising update as while the EU store continues to get many new PSP games every week, the US seems to have stopped already in its second week. This in turn does not bode well for PSP-Go owners.

Technology tends to be fickle and unreliable. Sometimes you hit “Copy”, only to have your computer interpret it as “Delete”. Other times, like last week for example, you hit “Record” and nothing happens at all. Such was the fate of the original Limitcast Episode 19. Some may suggest that these follies are the fault of a phenomenon known as “User Error” – but to them I say, “Shut the hell up.”

Technical difficulties aside, the crew will be re-recording Episode 19 on Sunday October 11th, and our focus will be on “The Causes and Effects of Over-hype.”

Comment below with your thoughts and we’ll discuss them during the show.

So, what delights have been bestowed upon us in this week’s PSN Store update? Well, there’s a curious lack of playable demos to enjoy, but we have two full games (Comet Crash and Digger HD) and the final DLC for Fallout 3, along with a number of other pickings such as DLC for Red Faction: Guerilla and IL2 Sturmovik: Bird of Prey.

PSP Minis also make a triumphant return – who could resist the lure of Yummy Yumm Cooking Jam?

Read on for this week’s update in full.

You have probably heard of Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle).  You’ve also probably heard of Level 5 (Dark Cloud, Professor Layton).

When their powers combine, what do you get?  The biggest DS game ever – four gigabits of awesome.

There are a couple of elemental truths in life.  One of them is “there’s always a girl”.  Why couldn’t you go out with the guys last Friday night?  There was a girl.  Why couldn’t you get that drug shipment to the dealers on time?  There was a girl.

Ok, maybe you’ve never experienced that last one, but that’s probably because you don’t live in Liberty City.  Luckily for you, Rockstar has created this wonderful video for their upcoming GTA 4 expansion, Episodes from Liberty City, to show you what you’ve been missing.

Check out the trailer above to find out why “there’s always a girl”. Read more… »

Gamer Limit Review: Aion

Reviewing an MMO is like taking a ride in a supercar. It’s fun at first. Everything is all shiny and new. Promotional material is glossy, promising to provide you with everything you need for an amazing experience. You step in, boot things up and take a ride. It is fun. It does seem to meet its promises. You walk away feeling a little bit giddy and hopeful.

But then reality sinks in. After a few experiences you start to realise that it’s not everything you thought it would be. It performs, but not in the ways that you want it to. Little issues creep up, you pretend to ignore them because, god, it just looks so gorgeous and it handles so well. But there is something missing, an element, a factor that was apparent in the others you tried and ended up enjoying. It’s not bad by any means of the word, but it’s different.

It’s lucky them, if World of Warcraft is the Bugatti Veyron, Aion is the Ferrari Enzo of MMOs.
