Football Genius - The Ultimate Quiz

When Scene It? hit the shelves in 2007, the Xbox 360 found itself with an unlikely new market: family gaming. Since that time, there has been a host of new quiz games ranging from unique, to simple carbon copy.

Football Genius – The Ultimate Quiz attempts to capitalize on the recent success of FIFA 10 with an intellectually charged football angle. Does it succeed? Or is it doomed to be yet another Xbox Live Arcade title that simply passes us by?

Calling All Cars

Who here remembers Calling All Cars? This gem of a game was an absolute riot to play on the PS3 at the time, with its unique automotive take on capture the flag providing hours of heated gameplay. Fond memories of shouting “go for the paddy wagon!” in an appalling Irish accent were frequently had.

Unfortunately, much to my surprise hardly anyone bought the game on PSN, or at least didn’t venture online as every time I attempted to join a game the servers were disappointingly desolate. As a result, the servers are to be taken offline from January 14 2010, which is a crying shame.

Of course, players will still be able to take part in local multiplayer matches, but it’s still disheartening to see David Jaffe’s masterpiece be the first PSN title to be closed down.

Wii-accidents are pretty well known to gamers, in fact I suspect most of us cringe when we have friends & family playing our Wiis… We have learnt the tough way to keep a close eye on those waving around our Wiimotes, sadly for a HSN (shopping network) presenter he didn’t have anyone to teach him restraint.

Watch the footage after the jump to see the wonders of live television.

Truth be told, the debut trailer from Star Wars’ new Battlefront: Elite Squadron doesn’t show much. In fact, it almost shows nothing but a brief, shiny-looking CGI cutscene for fans to take a peek at. LucasArts are pretty honest when it comes down to it, they even note that these sharpshooting visuals aren’t the actual gameplay footage; how nice of them.

If 33-second trailers involving space Stormtroopers are your thing, scoot inside. Read more… »

Despite the fact that PC gamers were delighted to hear the rumors of a Modern Warfare 2 delay on PC were in fact false, information being released over the past week have upset many.

First, a 10 dollar increase from 50 to 60 dollars. And most recently, on the latest Bash and Slash podcast, Infinity Ward’s community manager, Robert Bowling, has notified everyone that there will not be dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 2 on the PC. Read more… »

Just recently, Aktionsbündnis Amoklauf Winnenden, an activist group stationed in Germany, announced that it was holding a modern day [book] game burning, and invited everyone out to willingly turn in their “killer” violent video games all in the name of justice.

Well, it happened yesterday, and someone went to catch it all on camera: can you say “fail”? I honestly can’t tell what they have in that vat other than San Andreas, but if I had to guess, it would be a Gameboy game, a few PS2 titles, and a pack of Pokemon The Trading Card game cards. Read more… »

Gotta catch ‘em all! Well, not in this case: Pokepark is a new Wii title featuring Pikachu, with one simple objective – make friends while playing minigames! The above video features some gameplay, as well as an incredibly odd “news report” from an actual Japanese show: Chimchar suit and all.

In the video, get get to see some new and old Pokemon, which I assume is an attempt to sway old fans. While the graphics look similar to a Nintendo 64 game, I’m really not expecting anything graphically exciting out of a Pokemon title. What do you think? Is this inexcusable (check out the pixelation on Torterra at 0:27), or are you too much of a Pokemaniac to care?

Well folks, it seems like while HIPB (which sounds like a new life threatening disease) was all set to get a digital distrbution release, publisher NIS wants to scrounge up some support for a UMD version. But make sure you act now! Because on the official Nippon Ichi Software storefront, the RosenQueen Company, it says you have until “high noon” mid-December.

I’m a pretty big fan of NIS, so I think it’s really sad that they’re making a big fuss over a measly 1,000 units. So, if you want to support your friendly neighborhood (?) Eastern developer, feel free to drop twenty bucks, and fight digital distribution one UMD at a time. Holy Invasion of Privacy, described in my own words, is like a mix of Dig Dug and SimAnt (yea, that was perfect).

First-Look-Katamari-Forever----Major-Changes-For-The-Beloved-Katamari-Series

If you’ve ever played the Katamari series before, then you might be sorely disappointed by Namco Bandai’s newest entry. However, for those of you who are newcomers, you’ll find a very unique game that’ll keep you entertained for hours. From the very first moment you start the game, you know it’s going to be a very unique experience.

Right off the bat, the intro video features ducks singing, pandas flying, and a random assortment of other bizarre things that just don’t normally go together. It sets the tone for the rest of the game, as you’ll often see strange events while playing. Read more… »

[Make sure you check in every Saturday, as Gamer Limit will always have an interesting editorial for you to read. Feel free to also check out our full schedule right here!]

We at Gamer Limit tend to avoid talking candidly, and publicly, on the whole “meta journalism” situation, since most gamers generally don’t give two hoots about the field, nor the little game of generating self-justification and credibility amongst “mainstream” media that we like to play.

But there has been a bit of interesting discussion lately amongst bloggers and games journos about what constitutes real “journalism” and whether those of us who cover games as a medium will gain the same respect as those in politics, music, movies and other established areas.

I’d like to discuss why the gaming industry is unlike any other, and how it tends to skew and bend in ways that make it difficult for games journalists to gain any tract and respect from others in our field.

The first official trailer for the God of War Collection has just been released, and man does it look good. Running at a smooth 60fps and at a 720p resolution, this title will allow players to relive the glory of Kratos‘s PS2 adventures with all the added features of the PS3.

In addition to the visual upgrades, both PS2 games will also have their own separate trophy lists for the trophy hunters out there.
