  1. Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1)

Deep, refined gameplay. Many classes and secondary abilities lead to addictive strategizing sessions. Also, the writing is top-notch, akin to a good medieval fantasy novel. Endearing graphics style accompanied by fitting sound effects and music. A true classic.

  2. I’m gonna have to say that Master of Orion 2 was the best turn based game I ever played. I know a lot of people think that Civilzation has provided the best games from that genre, but conquering a planet has nothing on conquering an entire galaxy. There’s nothing like the feeling of entire star systems falling under the control of my mighty iron fist as my giant space armaga crushed all opposition in its way.

I could sit here and go on for hours about why Master of Orion was so incredibly awesome, but i’ll digress. It’s to bad a worth while sequel was never created.

  3. I’m going to go with Pokemon. It was the first game I ever played, and me and my cousin would stay up playing the first five minutes, until we beat our rival for the first time, then turn the system off, thinking we beat the game.

Only later did I find one of the most complex and enjoyable turn-based games ever made. Man, I want to play some right now! :(

  4. Shawn if you like Galaxy conquering you should try out Gal Civ 2. It’s Civ in space but better. I would guess it’s similar to Master of Orion.

My personal favourite is Civ4, but if Total War counts as turned based then that.

  5. I have to go with Valkyria Chronicles for this. It is hands down the best turn based battle system I’ve ever seen. On top of that, the art direction in the game is awesome as is the music. It is the #1 game I recommend to people buying a PS3.

I got to say Worms! it is turn based! Its funny as hell. Great to play with a group of friends. Watching worms fly all over the screen. Then come the killer SHEEP!!! Got to say it made blowing up your friends fun! The graphics started off simple but now Worms has developed into multi-game title. GO WORMS GO!

  7. I’m gonna go with Scorched Earth. Way before worms, this was the best turn based fun you could have with a bunch of friends.
Simple to play, and extremely satisfying to master :)

  8. I believe the best turn based game in existence would have to be Master of Magic since it was really the first of its kind that I can recall having randomly generated worlds and massive replayability. I really feel like it catapulted the genre as a whole into main stream and I still play it today… Granted to do so I have to use Dosbox but it’s definitely worth it and I’d recommend it to anyone who has never heard/seen it before.

  9. I’ll second that Valkyria Chronicles, Sean. Beautiful title. It’s a very odd hybrid of turn based and a bunch of other stuff, but amazing.

    Final Fantasy VII…

That should be enough said, but that game was just epic. What was it 3 CDs, Cloud, Seperoth, Ruby Weapon, ahh the memories. OH and who can forget Chocobo Racing! To this day that game is my #1 Turn Based Game.

  11. All these RPGs… tsk tsk. Mine is the original Advance Wars. Perfect balance, loads of challenge and replay, tons of character, all on the underpowered Game Boy Advance. How cool is that? I never played the sequels – couldn’t imagine them getting any better.

  12. Worms 2 is my favorite. Excellent humor, awesome weapons, good balance, and no stupid third dimension to deal with!

  13. I’ll go with Fire Emblem 1 on GBA (or the series in general)
It’s really hard and the lost of a character is dramatic !

    - Simple. Aim. Adjust for farts and wind and fire various projectiles at your opponent. Let the laughing ensue.

  15. Liking the worms loving going on, that game was awesome. But at the moment, Disgaea has me too hooked to vote anything else.

  16. SHINING FORCE 2 !!! SRPG, the battles are exacly like Military Madness, the little difference is that in SF u move from squares and here in MM y move from hexagon like in the real DND system. S-RPG t best style 3 in 1 (strategy, rpg, adventure ) I see that MM Nectris is battle based only, Shining Force Mega CD is battle based too :)

PS. If from Hudson Soft decide to make Bomberman SRPG – they will succeed !!!

  17. Golden Sun. It was repetitive yet never got boring. I also loved the 100s of different weapons and what not.

  18. Competition is now closed, winners will be announced shortly.

ldieyvaemo on November 10, 2010 @TheDRock456 I agree. Once again a wind turbine blowing in the wind with no real world video of data, installation, ect. Who has one of these? Please show us production. I appreciate the idea but we need more informaton then a video of it spining. See my vids. I install wind and solar. I show the units working in the real world. If you have a great idea a device and are trying to sell it would’nt you want to show all aspects of how it works in the real world? WTF
