Recently, Gamer Limit’s Kevin Miller reported that Infinity Ward would not allow dedicated servers for their latest title, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (PC). In his article he shows that over 33,000 gamers are not happy with this decision, now that figure has tripled in size.
Zipper Interactive seem astounded by the decision made by Infinity Ward. They state when speaking to DigitalFoundary, dedicated servers do a whole lot more good than bad. Check out what they said after the jump!
“Having dedicated servers actually provides benefits that extend beyond just managing network bandwidth issues, it resolves some of the more difficult peer-to-peer issues such as host migration, this is a situation where the client who is primarily responsible for simulating a game suddenly quits or becomes disconnected.”
“By hosting the game on a server, the quality of games is no longer determined by a randomly chosen host in a peer-to-peer solution. Additionally, we are able to provide advanced methods of cheat-prevention by providing validation of player inputs and movement within the game world and by recording entire game sessions for later review and analysis.” – Jason Tartaglia
In my opinion this petition has traits close to the recently closed Left 4 Dead 2 boycott, however this petition is on a far bigger scale, being over 5 times larger in size. It would be a very bold decision to turn their backs on over 118,000 potential customers (with the group still growing), who made decide to turn this petition into a boycott and simply not purchase the game.

i don’t get it? modern warfare 1 didn’t have dedicated servers on console systems? why is zipper interactive acting like this is unusual? they’re console devs and they’re making mag so they MUST have understanding of what’s involved.
In my eyes the only reason zipper added their voice to the stupid masses on this one is to try to make themselves look superior to infinity ward, which of course they just ain’t. Cheap move zipper.
And to anyone worrying about dedicated servers on a 16 player game? Guys it’s nearly 2010, not 1998. Get with the times yea?
I’m still not sure how I feel about the whole dedicated server issue. I see the pros, but there are a lot of cons and I’m not sure which out weights the other. I don’t think it matters though, because I doubt Infinity Ward is going to change anything this close to launch.
This petition means nothing. All of these guys are still going to buy the game whether Infinity Ward makes the changes or not.
If you really want to make an impact. Don’t buy the damn game. There are tons of other better (yea I said it) quality titles for gamers to enjoy this holiday. Pick one of those up instead.

Unfortunately, you are completely correct. The lifespan of most people’s standing fades all too quickly.
As I am sure the English people here will remember, when Jamie Oliver did his show about how poor the accommodation (for lack of a better word) supermarket chickens have, everyone went nuts and only bought free range or organic (I worked in Sainsbury’s at the time).
As soon as the Credit Crunch hit everyone started buying the regular cheap chickens again. A petition like this means nothing without proving you want to do something about the system.
Its not 16 man severs the PC folks are talkin about. 32 and 50 man severs.
Able to mod maps (IE make your own, Make a paint ball one ect.)
As to they will still buy the game any way. WTF are you talkin about. READ some of the posts on other sites about this. LOTS of the PC folks have killed thier Pre orders and have added to why have you canned your order, They say cause im not buying it Due to IWs lame IWnet.
That joining up with same rank crap is just that. I can log in as a rank 1 and own the top rank folks. Its about being able to boot that PKer off, that 10 yr old thats spamming voice blah blah balh.
IWs last min OOO we are not gonna have Dedicated severs at the last min stuff. If IW would have said up front Ok folks no severs we gonna do it like this, Then i bet a lot would have said ok im just not gonna get it and not been so upset.
Now most are waitin for BC2 to come out (5 months /sigh) Where DICE has responded WTF no Dedicated Severs. ?? We have them or some thing like that.

SO WHAT IF THERE ARE NO DEDICATED SERVERS??? less hacking, more people banned for software modifications… which in its nature is fully acceptable, there are terms of agreement against modifying the software… yet people went ahead and did their way with in the PS3 with COD4. so no more cheaters, and better connections, i hated playing on dedicated servers, host would either quit mid match or have a bandwidth connection that could not support more than 4 players without lagging out. so the new development was to improve player’s experience… and to those of you that want to mod a game… as far as im concerned i bought the game to play in what they made and not go off and make some stupid map with demented rules that would kill my stats on the ranking charts. So THANK YOU INFINITY WARD! I GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORTS!
