It’s been known for some time that Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, a crossover game in the vein of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 featuring characters from the popular anime company – Tatsunoko – is being released in America. It has also been known that not all the characters from the Tatsunoko roster would make it into the game due to licensing issues. Lastly, we knew that the U.S release would see new characters from both the Capcom and Tatsunoko sides.

Well, yesterday, a member of the community at Shoryuken.com found something interesting at TvC‘s Japanese website – something interesting which inadvertently revealed all the new characters we’d be seeing in the stateside release.

Many Tatsunoko animes were released in the U.S with completely different titles, as well as names for characters. As far as I know, the U.S release of TvC is using the Japanese names, so I will try and give the English names for the characters and animes if I can find them, with the Japanese name in bold:

1. Tekkaman Blade (Tekkaman Blade; I believe this series was dubbed in the U.S as Teknoman)
2. Yatterman #2 (Yatterman anime series; never released in the U.S, I believe)
3. Joe Asakura, a.k.a Jason/Dirk Daring (Gatchaman, a.k.a Battle of the Planets/G-Force: Guardians of Space)
4. Frank West (Dead Rising)
5. Zero (Mega Man X, Mega Man Zero series), or possibly Zero Gouki (Cyberbots)

We’ll have to wait and see who “Zero” is, but I’m personally hoping for Zero from the Mega Man X series – he seems like such an easy fit to the outlandish, crazy style of the Versus games, and I always wondered why he never made it into MvC2 (but Tron Bonne did?)

Unfortunately, the incriminating evidence has been removed from the TvC website, but it’s a bit late now, I suppose!

And though it’s not necessarily new news, here’s your whole roster, minus the above new characters.

Capcom:

Ryu (Street Fighter)
Chun-Li (Street Fighter)
Morrigan (Darkstalkers)
Alex (Street Fighter)
Batsu (Rival Schools)
Rock Volnutt (Mega Man Legends)
Soki (Onimusha)
Roll (Mega Man)
Saki Omokane (Quiz Nanaimo Dreams, a Japan-only game)
Viewtiful Joe (Viewtiful Joe)
PTX-40A (Lost Planet)
Tatsunoko:

Ken the Eagle, a.k.a Mark/Ace Goodheart (Gatchaman, a.k.a Battle of the Planets/G-Force: Guardians of Space)
Jun the Swan, a.k.a Princess/Agatha June (Gatchaman, a.k.a Battle of the Planets/G-Force: Guardians of Space)
Casshern (Neo-Human Casshern anime series; not released in the U.S)
Tekkaman (Tekkaman: The Space Knight)
Yatterman-1 (Yatterman anime series; not released in the U.S)
Polymar (Hurricane Polymar; the original anime was never released in the U.S. I can’t find enough information, but it seems the remake of the series was dubbed in English)
Doronjo (Yatterman anime series; not released in the U.S)
Karas (Karas anime series)
Ippatsuman (Gyakuten! Ippatsuman anime series; not released in the U.S)
Gold Lightan (Golden Warrior Gold Lightan anime series: not released in the U.S)

And, lastly, who did we lose? Just one character from the Tatsunoko side:

Hakushon Daimao (Hakushon Daimao anime series; not released in the U.S)

…Phew! So, are you excited? Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars will be hitting the western shores on December 11th!

  1. This game looks so so ace. I can’t wait to get it. Love 2D fighter mash ups!

  2. I’m stoked for Zero, even though people are complaining that he’s already been saturated.

My MMX/MMX4 Zero fanboyism is showing!

  3. I have the craziest feeling that it’s actually going to be Zero Gouki from Cyberbots. This is mainly due to this article:

    http://www.siliconera.com/2009/05/17/these-characters-didnt-make-the-tatsunoko-vs-capcom-cut/

These are a list of characters who the producer was hoping to include in the original arcade release, but couldn’t due to time constraints. Two of those characters happen to be in the new character roster for TvC (Yatterman-2 and Joe the Condor, a.k.a Joe Asakura).

I really do hope it’s the MMX version of Zero, though.

  4. Man, getting to play as Zero would kick ass!

However, I am extremely excited to see what Frank West has to offer!

  5. Frank West will dress up in a pretty pink skirt and lawnmower the crap out of any opponent. How can anyone defend against that? :)

I dont think the other characters are going to be included in the game, I just checked the TGS 2009 and only tekkaman blade and frank west were included, Nice game but they could have included more striking characters….

What a horrible waste of potential. I mean the Wii graphics, come on. And just to let you know, Cashan was released in America. They showed it on Sci-fi’ Saturday Anime all the time. And he is the badest Mo-fo on the planet………Any comments to the contrary???
