gamebreaker

In such an open-play game, it was only a matter of time until something game breaking was discovered… Sadly, it was within the first fortnight of release.

Apparently, if you combine Handcuffs with a Vending Machine, you can pretty much clear any action level. Check out the video after the jump.

Interesting mechanic, who would of thought of combing a vending machine with handcuffs? It’s a great way to ruin an enjoyable game, but of course, that doesn’t mean you have to use the exploit.  Although, if you ever get stuck, it’s there for you to abuse.

Will you be using it?

  1. That’s pretty unexpected, but I can’t say it’s the first time some one has found an easy work around for getting through a game quickly. I haven’t picked up my copy of Scribblenauts yet, but I won’t be using this, as I prefer to be challenged.

  2. Half the fun of the game looks to be the weird combinations of stuff you can come up with to solve problems. Maybe this idea just cropped up in one of those “I’ll see what I can combine next” type of brainstorms?

  3. I love the idea of this game from the conversations you can have with people “How did you solve it?” “Oh I used a werewolf, a jeep, a block of cheese and a calendar” “oh right, I used a block of cheese and the abstract concept of loneliness”
If everyone’s conversations were “Vending Machine + Handcuff” that would be a sad sad world.

Hey guys, how about a big “SPOILER – reading this might ruin your entire game” warning at the top next time?

I know it’s your choice, but sometimes, it’s hard NOT to cheat when you know about an exploit like this and you’re really stuck…

  5. That’s only going to work on the Action levels, the Puzzle levels would be unaffected!

An Australian review copy of Scribblenauts found its way into my DS today. It’s pretty funny so far, although I’ve been using some worryingly violent methods to finish levels – trapping rats in ovens, dropping Leviathans on wolves, shooting bears with rocket launchers, that sort of thing. Can’t see myself using this exploit, it would sort of defeat the purpose of playing the game.

  6. A lot of the levels are easy to solve if you just use the same objects over and over. The fun is finding new and unique ways to solve stuff.

Me personally, I’ll never use this venind machine + handcuffs trick, but that’s just me.

  7. I don’t really see this as a spoiler, in the fact that after reading it, a spoiler changes your perception of an event by not allowing you to be surprised for example. But, to claim it will ruin the entire game? The fun is thinking up novel and crazy ways to solve things, if once you hear one method you will never try anything else then I have two things to say to you:
    The Planet Neptune + Jam
    Try it.

  8. Haha, “spoilers”! It inherently contains no plot sabotage: it’s entirely up to you whether or not you want to cheat the game.

Its like telling someone “gameshark exists”. SPOILERS!

  9. Wait… Gameshark… exists????

NOOOOOOOO you ruined my life and love of gaming… :(

Maybe if I rub this digital lamp….

NOOOOOOOO a Game Genie came out of it!

What a sad, spoiled world I now live in. :(
