Rejoice, owners of the iDevice, for the biggest and baddest franchise of all time will soon slalom its way to an App Store near you. Upon earlier news this week that Rockstar was going to release a port of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (GTA: CW) for the dusty PlayStation Portable, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that the game will also make its way to the iPhone. Expect grand thieving, mischief, and tongue-in-cheek humour.

Rockstar Games, the world-renowned publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is pleased to announce that the critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars from Rockstar Leeds, the winners of the 2009 Develop Award for Best Handheld Game Studio, will be making its way to the iPhone™ and iPod® touch this fall.
“Chinatown Wars is a perfect match for the iPhone and iPod touch,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “We are very excited to bring this incredibly ambitious version of Liberty City, with this level of detail and immersive gameplay on Apple’s new gaming platforms.”
Good on you, Sam. It’s about time a Rockstar game made its way to the App Store. After numerous, GTA-like releases such as Car Jack Streets, Payback and Gameloft’s recent Gangstar: West Coast Hustle, let’s see if GTA: CW will incinerate all that stand in its way. After all, the iPhone port will most likely have upgraded visuals compared to that of the DS version.
On the contrary, we can’t get too excited though, as Apple’s approval process has been known to be rather harsh on more mature content. However, as it stands, GTA: Chinatown Wars is scheduled for release this Fall, that means Spring for the awesome Aussies.
