I think its an "OKAY" game, Aion added a few different things but its also lacking a little. Crafting in Aion is super boring, you have to rely on work orders to level rather than farming. you do have to farm to make recipes but you could never level on recipes alone it would take weeks of farming to lvl up a few points that way. So its more affordable to do work orders as you SlOWLY make approx 8-10 items for the crafting NPC to go up 1 or 2 points in crafting, its painfully boring ! ! the zones are not to large to do on foot but ground mounts would still be nice, pvp on ground mounts would be fun also. i cant say i had alot of fun leveling so far. combat is better than other Mmos i have played so im really hoping for pvp to win me over. Graphics are nice, some sounds and music get annoying. i never had to grind in other Mmos to level. there was always enough quests or dungeons/pvp available at an earlier level to mix it up a bit. i dont hate the game but far from impressed, i guess im sticking around waiting for something to suck me in.

Good review of the game Aion - the topwer of eternity.
It is a success, with a playerbase that is over 4 million in one year, is not going anywhere, anytime soon :). I played it since Beta and i liked it, got all my friends joining in. You did not mention Cutscenes tho, thats one of the great things about Aion, well atleast for me. It makes you feel involved more. And lets not forget, aion is new. only 1 year old still. Ncsoft has made success after success, l2 is still alive and kicking with 1,5 mil subs, and l1 with 0,8 mil subs. I have no doubt Ncsoft will turn Aion into a diamond, we have seen nothing yet :)

the game is bad, i played alot, SM till lvl 50 then quitted due to stupid treatment the players receives (like heart not proccing most important, then lame pvp, only one bg 1-2 times/day max, etc). Only one advice i have: not worth spending time on it. Wouldnt waste my time if it would of been free 2 play either.

NC Soft made a big mistake making this Pay per play. Guild Wars was Free to Play, all their games should be. Expessially when they lack so much.
Wings? who thought of that? Stupid. Give me some reactive environments and Much Higher dammage potential and I'll get in. I dont' want the gradient of the min max dammage potential to be a figure between 20 to 30 max dammage. What ever happened to FF style leveling where by the end of the game you're doing upwards of 9999 dammage per attack? This is the kind of stuff ppl are looking for. err - the 9999 make it up to 100000 and up. Now that would be fun. These NC Soft Games are just BIG worlds you run around in trying to find the lame arse gear that will give you the 20 hp extra you need to beat a boss.

Thanks for the info, but one thing I might add is this is a newer game, World of Warcraft's been around the block a bit. As Aion progresses NCsoft will hopefully add on to this and treat it like a serious MMORPG instead of moving onto a new project and letting this take back seat.

Great preview CJ, but you left out one thing.... Which server are you on? I'll probably buy this tomorrow. Hit me up with your char name also. I'll be "Komplex" as always :P

@Karakov
Its not a review, just some impressions I have so far about the game, and answers to basic questions people may have. Thanks for your thoughts!

I don't want to say the review is wrong, because it isn't, but at the same time I have to disagree on some points. Aion's graphics are good, but they are not particularly great or even original it just looks like other Korean MMO's particularly NC Soft's Lineage 2. The flight also does feel tacky, you don't really move a lot faster and it isn't really very useful at low level. I have played the game in the OB and after release for probably around 25-30 hours. It just doesn't do anything to break the mold and grab me worst still I can already feel the grind gearing up and I suspect it will make WoW's look tame by comparison. I may have overplayed the genre but once the free month is up I will probably let this sub go.

A bit low on cash at the moment so I was unable to buy Aion myself.

I have had a go with it through playing my brother's account, my first impressions of the game are very good but I didn't quite feel as exited as I have in MMO's before.

Mind you, that could be the insane 1 and a half hour queue it took me to create a character.
