Today developer Amanita Design, makers of the popular browser-based puzzler Samorost, announced that its current project Machinarium will hit digital retailers Oct. 16 for the PC and Mac.

Priced at $20, the adventure game will be available on Steam, Direct2Drive, and Gamersgate. If you’re looking to save a couple bucks, you can pre-order it from Amanita’s site for $17.

Machinarium recently won an award for “Excellence in Visual Art” at this past Independent Games Festival. To see why, hit the jump.

  1. I have to say I’m very impressed – it looks incredible and has the right amount of quirk to fit in quite nicely with the 58 seconds I saw. Hopefully my archaic counting machine will be able to run this magnificent piece of Indie gold.

Most people like to lump Nirvana into the Grunge early 90 s genre. I think that is coetlepmly misleading and commercial. Bands that influenced them were unknown at the time and Kurt Cobain felt horrible about signing to a major label. Not every band can be classified as indie, for example; Guns N’ Roses, Led Zeppelin, and queen are not indie bands. What are your thoughts?

  2. Looks very interesting, and the visual style is excellent. I’m a sucker for great looking indie games. (Aztaka, Aquaria, Gish..)

  3. I’ve been waiting for this game for a couple of months. Can’t wait!

Being a huge music nerd and not being interested in iewnrviets is probably my weakest point, but I’d ask some of the following questions:-What bands and life experiences have influenced your songs the most?-How do the lyrics and melody come to you?-Are your friends and family supportive of your music?-What genre would you classify yourself as? ( Indie isn’t actually a genre on its own specifically, it’s actually just to declare that this artist is independent; obviously. Indie-rock, Indie-electronic, etc. are all appropriate.)-Are you self-taught in your music or have you taken lessons?-How long does it take you to write a song on average?-Are there any special traditions you and your band have when preparing for a show or writing a song?I’m sure you can think of some more interesting questions, but that’s what I’d ask them.

  4. This game looks really cool!

Thanks for the passion.I want to keep Thursday nihtgs for an indie showcase. So, try to support Thursdays at Two Boots. The occasional Saturday show may pop up, but that needs to be a great draw. This Saturday, with Black Taxi from Brooklyn is one night to come out. Yes, they are playing at Rack n Roll in Stamford friday night, but the Two Boots show is all ages.As long as I am connected with Two Boots, I will continue to book indie bands whenever possible.
