Christmas must have come early this year, because two of the most anticipated games of the Fall, Forza 3 and Brutal Legend, just had their demos released on the Xbox Live Marketplace. If you have a gold membership you can go download them now and begin drooling all over your controller as your experience how incredible they are.
I’ve already played both demos, so to hear more specific information about them and to get my impressions, hit the jump.
The Brutal Legend demo is actually the same exclusive one that’s been circulating around to a lucky few for a couple weeks now. It essentially takes you through the first 20 minutes of the game, introducing you to the main character, Eddie Riggs, and many of the weapons he’ll be using early on. You also get to meet Ophelia, a love interest who assists Eddie in kicking some demon ass.
I was actually quite shocked at how many different gameplay elements you get to experience in the demo. I would say more, but I don’t want to give too much away, as I don’t want to spoil all your fun. I will say that the comedic genius of Tim Schafer is immediately evident. I just hope he can keep the jokes fresh throughout the entire game.
Next up is the Forza 3 demo, which gives you the opportunity to test drive five different cars around the Camino Viejo de Montserrat race track from the game. Before you begin you’ll get to choose from a Mini Cooper, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR, Ferrari California, Audi R8, and Porsche 911 GT3-RSR, all of which have their own unique handling and style of driving. After selecting your car, paint color, and difficulty level, it’s off the races.
The Camino Viejo de Montserrat track itself is very short, being only 1.8 miles in length with a 2 lap maximum. It’s perfect for the demo though, as it includes lots of different elements including long straightaways and some precise hair pin turns. It’s also a really beautiful location, as it resides right on the side of a mountain.
If you can’t already tell, I really enjoyed both games. You’ll probably get a lot more play time out of the Forza 3 demo, but I found I had more fun playing the Brutal Legend one. Don’t take my word for it. Go download them now and try them out yourself.
