Halo 3 ODST Live Action Trailer 2

Imagine that you are Bungie studios, creator of one of the most well known highly acclaimed game series of all time.  Now imagine that you have a new title in that series coming out soon, and you need to decide how to market it.  You could probably save a lot of money and simply get away with a short commercial that shows a couple seconds of game footage, followed by the title of the game in huge letters.  That would most likely be enough to sell millions upon millions of copies of your new highly anticipated game.

Or, you could instead spend tons of money to create a live action commercial, featuring good enough special effects to pass for any low budget sci-fi movie.  Apparently Bungie chose the latter, as is evident in their most recent Halo 3: ODST marketing video.  Hit the jump to see this incredible trailer.

I honestly can’t think of any other game that has tried to recreate its gameplay in a live action trailer.  I’m sure there is one out there, but right now nothing is coming to mind.  What I do know is Bungie is going above and beyond what it needs to do to market this title.  Don’t you think that any game with the name “Halo 3″ on it sells itself?  Apparently Bungie doesn’t think so.

Halo 3: ODST releases exclusively for the XBOX 360 on September 22, 2009.

  1. I have been irritated with the Halo train over the years. However, this trailer was just too high quality for me not to enjoy it.

  2. As SyFy as it may have been, this really got me amped to play. And, it kinda gives us a look at what a Halo movie could resemble, obviously with some serious upgrades to the special effects. Come on Spielberg, I needs my precious.

  3. This was brilliant. Much better than the Halo 3 short films, though those weren’t terrible. As you say Chris, this could easily give us an idea of a halo movie. And it would certainly be a movie I’d be seeing opening day.

  4. I was hoping this kind of awesome mixed with tact and honor could have been applied to the Six Days in Fallujah game before it was axed… Guess it’s easier to do in a fantasy world.

  5. Daaaaamn. This makes me wish they’d get to work on the movie. And again, I won’t get irritated with the Halo titles as long as the product stays at the quality it has.

  6. Wow, now THAT was a trailer!

  7. Pretty generic in terms of the whole Sci-Fi-ness, but seeing a live action jaunt within the halo universe was quite cool.

  8. I am getting more and more intrigued by this game, as it seems they are giving it some effort to both create and market “more than just a Halo game.” which is a bold move considering the fact Halo prints money. Then again, I was going to play this game the second I heard Nathan Fillion was in it, so they can stop advertising it now and I’d be good, but apparently there are some fence sitters who need more than Captain Hammer to buy a game.

Sure wish the ODST units were this helpful in Halo 2/3. Way to suddenly make non-spartans a legitimate threat to the Covenant, Bungie-I mean Microsoft.

The language is Hungarian. Does it cause that Orbital Drop Shock Troopers are huns too?
