  1. Though I really want Brutal Legend, and I very much want to be playing the demo right now, I’m afraid Metal isn’t really my forte. I’m going to take the cop-out nerd answer and say the Black Mages.

I mean, I could try to lie and Wikipedia up in this bitch, but the Black Mages are technically metal, sort of, right? Well, that’s my answer. The Black Mages first album, The Black Mages. You just can’t beat J-E-N-O-V-A in my book.

    360!

  2. @Krow
The Black Mages definitely count! Make sure you mention which version you want.

  3. avatar Zombutler

My favorite metal album is undoubtedly Screaming For Justice by Judas Priest. When me and my friend went for the Zombie Genocider achievement, that album probably got around 20 plays, at least, along with some other great zahmbie killin tunes. I would love a 360 Brutal Legend demo code, and I promise if I win it I’ll listen to metal while I play it!

Make sure you register (so your name is in red, like Krow’s), then post your favorite metal album in addition to your console of choice :D

  5. Iron Maiden OFC HELL YEAH!!
    PS3 version

  6. Kinda like Krow, Metal generally isn’t my forte, but my favorite heavy metal album is definitely Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory by Dream Theater.

It’s a Rock Opera, it has amazing lyrics, and some of the best guitar and drum work you’ll ever hear. It has a couple songs that aren’t on the same level as others, but with songs like Home, Fatal Tragedy and Strange Déjà Vu, there’s room for a clunker or two.

Anywho, thanks for the opportunity folks. I’d like a 360 copy if possible.

  7. Not sure why my name isn’t in red…

  8. @Tattari, debloo, Zombutler
Register, and comment :D – all great entries so far.

    @Gatsby
I’m not sure either. You are registered, so no worries. For anyone else who is registered as well but their name isn’t showing up, I’ll double check your username in the database before writing you off.

  9. I made an account like last week. sorry bout that.

    Pantera: Cowboys from Hell

It gave an awesome the deserved exposure to the masses.

360 code thank you very much.

  10. There are only a handful of really great ones. I realized while writing this that I like Heavy Metal more than I thought I did and lost count at what all I wrote about and what all I said. The aspect that I find most appealing is the evil nature of the music, the rebellious spirit of metal, and the fantasy world it portrays of a nonstop party.

    Metallica – Master of Puppets

Nearly every song on it, a masterpiece. At least as far as heavy metal can go. Every song gets me pumped and ready for ultra violence. I picture myself riding horses and cracking skulls with a battle axe listening to this stuff. Battery, Master Of Puppets, Sanitarium, and all the rest, they’re all great tunes.

    Slayer – Reigning Blood

Speed metal is typically horrible, but I can think of one band that does it right: Slayer. Reigning Blood being the exemplary. The title track alone brings about thoughts of devils minions enslaving humanity and one lone warrior fighting against them. I mean everything evil, everything that is dark, it’s all there on that album.

    Rammstein – Senshucht

German for “Longing”, “Desire” and sometimes “Hunger.” It’s on this album, the second album by Rammstein, that they really came into their own. While their first album had some great songs, it was Senshucht that had their biggest hits. Du Hast for example being their most well known heavy metal electronic symphony. But other songs from the album such as Tier and Engel bring things together. The song that really stands out is Buch Dich, or “Bend Down.” The song is about domination and during live performances they perform simulated sodomy on one another that includes water hoses. I’d highly recommend their other albums, but if you can only choose one, get this. If you want to watch their live act of this material and some from their first album, look on you tube for Live Aus Berlin. If you only watch one thing from that, watch Buch Dich. Please.

    Led Zepplin – IV

If you don’t know IV, what the hell are you doing listening to heavy metal? Stairway and Black Dog should be enough. I like songs from their other albums more, but only select songs. IV seems to be the better package, unless you’ve a “best of” collection. In which case find one with Moby Dick and Immigrant Song, as well as Khasmir. Immigrant Song in particular seems to be their greatest.

Ozzy Osbrone – Blizzard of Oz

Black Sabbeth might be more metal, and certainly darker, but for my tastes I like Blizzard. Randy Rhodes guitar work is that of a poet. He really had his shit together. Ozzy of course has the persona and charisma of the devil himself, belting out tunes like Flying High Again that make me feel alive. And that when I go to hell, things won’t be so bad.

    Rob Zombie – Hellbilly Deluxe

A near perfect album for what I’m into. Rob Zombie has some wonderful songs that really are what metal is all about. Being evil and dark, having to do with horror, and generally thumping sound that keep one motivated. The type of heavy metal presented here seems more light hearted than black death speed metal, but still has some undertones of that sort of stuff.

    AC/DC – Highway to Hell

In their sixth album AC/DC really put together something worth listening to. An anthem about the trip to hell. A postitive trip. What could be more rebellious than a fun trip to hell? Describing that your friends would be there too. I almost would list every AC/DC album and song, since I’ve not heard one that I didn’t like. Some I don’t love, but it seems that they do what I like best. They’re dark, they rock, they’re rebels. They are Heavy Metal. While not my favorites, they are the best in my opinions. They’re allusions to Satanism in particular and the tone of most of their music are the most appealing aspects. Every song feels like a party.

I could name off countless others, ones that I like for their associations to horror films or notable for their outrageous content. Two comedic medal albums that I really enjoy are the Deathclock Deathalbum and Tenacious D’s album. Both have some wonderful heavy metal, but are also hilarious parodies of the various tropes used in the genre. I can’t not mention Spinal Tap as well. 80s Hair Metal, the screaming hardcore metal, the post punk rap rock metal, all of it, in some way is trying to appeal to me. Very little of it actually does, but if I happened to catch one song I liked its well worth it. Its unfortunate that most of the groups today seem to try to hard or are just not metal.

I’ll take the PS3 code. My playstation 3 is just sitting here not doing anything.

  11. I think I went overboard, but I could easily write about several other albums.

  12. I know staff can’t enter, but I just wanted to throw out one anyways.

Dream Theater – Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from a Memory

  14. No staff, but still.

    Dethklok – The Dethalbum.

    Party on, Wayne!

  15. Metallica Kill ‘Em All

    360 code if i win

  16. oh btw sorry .. didn’t read that … right

    my Favourite Album is

A matter of Life and Death by Iron Maiden

and yep .. PS3 version is my choice :)

  17. @Random
I share your passion, but make sure you pick 1 before tomorrow :D

  18. hands down I have to say Nightwish’s album Once
Wish I had an angel and Dark chest of wonders are just to awesome for me to pick any other album.

    PS3!!!!!!#@!@$^$%%^&

  19. Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying? – Megadeth

    Just awesome. That is all.

  20. Zlad! It’s so brutal……
    PS3 :P

  21. I’d say my favorite metal album, would have to be, WITHOUT_A_DOUBT, Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park.

    CRAAAAAAAAAAAAALIIING IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN MYY SKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN
THESE WOOOOOOOOOOOUUNDS THEY WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILL NOT HEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL

  22. “Masterplan” by Masterplan. Jorn Lande is a vocal god and his return to the band for the upcoming 4th album is some of the best news this year.

  23. Chris im sure i signed up btw .. but my name still appears in gray :S

  24. avatar James Collinge

Motley Crue’s ‘Dr. Feelgood’ has three of my all-time favourite tracks on it; Kickstart my Heart, Live Wire and of course the eponymous second track, Doctor Feelgood (that I believe is actually in the game, wahoo!)

My second favourite album would probably have to be Mr. Bungle’s ‘California’, it’s more Avant-Garde metal, but that counts, doesn’t it? It has all the sensibilities of metal and there’s some amazing tracks on there, thanks mostly to vocalist Mike Patton who is not a stranger to videogame work at all and I had the pleasure of meeting at a festival in the uk while visiting a few weeks back.

And last but not least, Fozzy’s first album has some of the most amazing covers I’ve ever heard, I’d have never thought that a band could out do the original ‘Live Wire’ or Iron Maiden’s ‘The Prisoner’ (best tv show of all time imo) and tighten it up while they’re at it.

As for versions of the demo code, I’ll take either PS3 or 360 (preferably ps3 though guys), come on Rocktober!

  25. –Sorry guys, in all the excitement I almost forgot to register!–

  26. I’m not a metal fan, but I think Crystal Castles is my favorite band next to it. Crimewave is probably their best song, it’s in their self-titled album.

    360? :O

  27. avatar Emil Visti

No question here – Pantera: A Vulgar Display of Power.

Man, I love that album. Also I have a 360.

  28. Weeeeeell? let’s start the engines.

I just can’t pick only one album ‘cuz i listen to variety of rock\metal genres and it’s impossible to chose one.

    SLAYER – REIGN IN BLOOD
Hell yeah. You insert this CD in your player and find yourself bloodthirsty and willing to dismember someone with your bare hands. From the first ANGEL OF DEATH to the last RAINING BLOOD it’s classics and violent masterpieces of thrash metal. THRASH TILL DEATH!!!

    JUDAS PRIEST – PAINKILLER
What can i say about this one… Album just kicks you arse with it’s speed and power of Halford’s voice. Every song is anthem to the classic metal of 80′s, but title track PAINKILLER just kills you with it’s energy and of course face-melting heart-stopping guitar solos.

I had both X360 and PS3, but after RROD issue it’s only PS3 now.

  29. @simon

HELL YEAH Dethklok! I never really liked metal until I started watching that TV show. My favorite song from them is:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyw0xeOwVd0

  30. The registration problem was fixed. Winners will be announced at 6:30!

  31. Ride The Lightning – Metallica

Yes, its better than Master of Puppets!

    Honourable mentions:

    Powerslave – Iron Maiden
    Rust in Peace – Megadeth
    Bonded By Blood – Exodus

I’m sure Tim Schafer would approve!

  32. Sorry, I’ll have either version. But preferred version is PS3

  33. Wow…that’s a really hard question….it’s a toss up between Iron Maiden ‘Piece of Mind’ or Black Sabbath ‘Paranoid’….I’ll go with:

    Iron Maiden ‘Piece of Mind’

    Xbox360

    \m/ \m/

  34. Tool – Aenima

    Xbox 360 version

  35. Oh boy, i can’t wait to play BL since i watched the video about Rubik and soundtrack. I was sitting, watching all these great titles and thinking: “Man, i wish they bring Youth Gone Wild…” and i saw the Youth Gone Wild by Skid Row! This game is really game of my dream.

    My favorite one is:
    Accept – Metal Heart
Pure Heavy Metal energy! I love that voice of Udo’s that makes you go crazy and mad. Album is full of great songs that is all-time favorites to me.

    I own a PS3 console.

  36. If this is still going on, I’ll enter too.

    Metallica – Master of Puppets

    I own a PS3

  37. Black Sabbath – Heaven & Hell ( It’s just awesome) Xbox 360

(LOL Screaming for Justice) its Screaming for Vengence.

  38. avatar blackheart

    @randombullseye
Oh man, you’ve made a mess.

Slayer’s album is called Reign In Blood and it’s Thrash Metal, not Speed. Also, are you even listening to lyrics? Lone warrior fighting against devil’s minions? Slayer meant something like being devil’s sidekicks and enslaving people like you, no offence)

AC\DC and Led Zeppelin are Hard Rock, not Heavy Metal, but sometimes it’s hard to make a difference, so i forgive you :)

    -Party on, Garth!
    -Party on, Wayne!

  39. @blackheart

Ah, a fellow musical historian! I will say that in regards to Zeppelin, though, many people classify them as “early metal”: same as Black Sabbath and Queensrÿche (which some people would call Hard Rock).

I still think it’s AMAZING that Sabbath and Zeppelin (if you don’t card the early Yardbirds) came out at relatively the same time. 1970 was a good year for music.

  40. Oh man, sweet I just registered before the deadline. Awesome contest, I have been anticipating this title for some time and would love to get my hands on a demo, good luck to everyone. I would like an Xbox 360 code please :) . By the way, Tenacious D rocks even though I don’t think it’s possible to top Zeppelin :D .

  41. Maybe too obvious, but Black Sabbath. I don’t really listen to too much metal, but it’s gotta be Black Sabbath (And Tenacious D for comic affect).

  42. Whoops, just realized we had to post a metal album. Sorry for the double post but I’m going to have to say for metal The Pick of Destiny- Tenacious D.
