As soon as the words “movie tie in game”, are uttered, it’s safe to assume eye-rolling will commence. Marvel says that’s not the case anymore with their brand, using the recent success of X-Men Origins: Wolverine as a stepping stone. To drive this point home, currently the Xbox 360 version is sitting at a cool 75% rating on Metacritic, and Gamer Limit’s own Paul Clark gave it an 85%.

Executive Vice President of Global Digital Media Group has stated that  “we are not doing crappy movie-based games anymore. You can quote me on that.” Read more… »

In countries that don’t have significant gaming industries (read: any country outside the United States and Japan), most budding developers rely on the growing support of the mainstream gamer to help flood existing behemoths with cash, thus fueling the need for regional game studios to pluck the best and brightest of the local graduates.

In recent years, some of the largest game houses in the world, such as Ubisoft, THQ, EA, Sony, and Microsoft have branched out past the traditional strongholds and established unique presences in many other countries – including the UK, Australia, Canada, India and even China.

What entices a company to start a studio in a particular place, and not others? Does local government play a role?

GT5

A delicious stream of information has been unveiled for the PS3′s hotly anticipated racing simulation Gran Turismo 5, after it has previous remained silent. Taken from the official website, it has been revealed that the final game will include 1000 vehicles and 170 premium models (presumably DLC?).

Along with that most requested of features; vehicle deformation and possibly even rollover physics.

Considering that Polyphony utterly strive for painstaking perfection, to the point that the game has taken over 5 years to roll out since GT4, this will hopefully imply that it will boast the most advanced and realistic collisions to grace a video game to date. It’s time to get excited.

There is just one glaring and somewhat important omission from this announcement however, and that is a solid release date. Still, there is always the Tokyo Game Show…

You can view a translation of the announcement, courtesy of GT Planet, after the break.
