Another Thursday is upon us, and this week PSN users have been treated to a bumper GamesCom special to consume. Unsurprisingly, this week’s dish is rich in content with a good helping of promotional material from the said event, including fresh video trailers, a total of four demos and even the entire Sony conference in full, if you can stomach it.

Whilst I am ecstatic to see a demo of the delicious Dirt 2 make the cut, I have to ask about the whereabouts of the previously announced Smash Cars? Presumably it will show its face in this week’s American Store update.

Check out this week’s momentus meal after the break.

batman history

In preparation for next week’s arrival of Batman: Arkham Asylum, Eidos release a new trailer detailing the history of Arkham’s loony bin.

While the trailer doesn’t show much gameplay, it’s not really a problem considering a demo is out of the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. As someone who has played the demo, let me say, I can not recommend it enough. The combat is fluid and exciting, the atmosphere is iconic of Batman, and the stealth aspect really makes you feel like the Caped Crusader. For a more in depth discussion of the demo, check out episode 13 of GamerLimit’s Limitcast.

GI Joe is a timeless favorite for audiences both young and old. The classic series DVDs are still selling, and youngsters are eating up the new series and subsequent toy line. According to reviews, the newest GI Joe movie isn’t up to snuff, so I wasn’t expecting much from the movie-based game.

When I popped in GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra into my Xbox 360, I was expecting a typical movie tie-in action adventure title. Imagine my surprise when I learned that it was actually a current generation Contra clone. Read more… »

GT5 damage

Following the information blowout of Gran Turismo 5 from the GamesCom event, there were certainly a few questions that are still unanswered. Whilst the final release date has yet to be announced, the inclusion of damage was officially confirmed. But now now have a better idea of what to expect, thanks to a video replay of a Subaru Impreza which demonstrates Gran Turismo 5‘s damage system in full.

Disappointingly however, it has been confirmed that damage will not be applicable to every car in the game, and will only be present in select car classes which traces back to the rumour that it will only be effective for racing cars. Shame.

You can view the video after the jump.
