It’s 10:41 am and the PR over at Ubisoft are already hard at work. Ubisoft’s videogame movie tie-in Avatar just got its first trailer released, and by the looks of things, it sets to break tradition. Dubbed the game that ‘tries to not be a horrible, horrible game based on a soon-to-be-released film’, the trailer shows never-before-seen in-game footage that looks to reach its goal.

Hit the jump for the new trailer.

policenauts_02b

Policenauts, Hideo Kojima’s cinematic adventure, has now received (from the courtesy of some loving fans) a full English translation, sans voice acting.

Policenauts was originally released in 1994 for the NEC PC-9821, with it being later ported to 3Do, PSX, and Sega Saturn.  To sum up Policenauts, it would be best described as a Point and Click Sci-Fi adventure.

brave-a-warriors-tale-2

It’s not always easy to sift through the vast sea of video game selections at your local retailer. With hundreds of titles to choose from and only one $60 gift card to spare, it’s safe to assume you might have a selective eye when it comes to buying on impulse.

If you meandered over to the 360 section, and took a gander at Brave: A Warrior’s Tale’s coverart, you’d see the phrase “Xbox 360 Family Game.” Is this clever choice of words Microsoft’s new secret code for “shovelware?” Read on, inquiring minds! Read more… »

Games on Demand Editorial Banner

Microsoft has received quite a bit of flak over its Games On Demand pricing, both in the U.S. and overseas.  Mass Effect in particular is priced at nearly $100 in Australia, and the American titles are at or above the hard copy prices.

This is not good business.  This is not OK.

But I have a solution.  Read on to find out what it is.

Ashes Cricket 2009

The world of video game cricket has been around for well over a decade, delivering us an array of truly diverse titles, from Brian Lara Cricket ’96, to the more recent Flash phenomenon, Stick Cricket. However, the mere fact that the sport of cricket is an almost unknown in the United States and parts of Europe has alienated huge markets for gaming developers.

Ashes Cricket 2009 attempts to open up that market for new gamers to experience the wonder of our colonial sport. But does Transmission Games defy all expectations and hit this title for six? Or do they merely cower before the in-swinger and hit the ball onto their own stumps?

See? Bad cricket puns already!

battlefield-1943

I got some bad news PC gamers. Remember when EA said Battlefield 1943 would be coming to the PC later this summer? Well, not any more.

According to DICE, BF1943 on the PC is now delayed until first quarter 2010. The reason it was delayed was to add support for ranked server provider hosting, ensure peripheral functionality (joysticks and the like), add VoIP, and to increase the max player count to 32. Producer Gordon Van Dyke stated, “This was a hard pill to swallow, but it was absolutely needed to ensure the features and functionality that PC players have come to expect from Battlefield on PC are not missing.” Read more… »

It’s common knowledge that videogames are predominantly a male pastime, backed up by many studies. Hell, even videogame characters are mostly male. Females are marginalised, yet their voice is growing stronger every day.

I recently sat down with self confessed casual gamer Amy Balloch, aspiring developer Kimberly Dawson, digitallyblonde.com’s Carol Zara and Gamer Limit’s very own Jessica Famularo. I asked our eclectic mix of ladies about how they started gaming, their position on Ubisoft’s Frag Dolls, how they feel they’re treated online and more.

Read on for some answers you may find surprising.
