PS3 Firmware 3.00 announced

The firmware update that everyone has been craving for has finally been announced – the elusive 3.00 update, which is the next significant step up for the PS3.  Some tantalising new defining features will include animated XMB features and a “What’s New” section, along with additional enhancements that make the system more intuative to navigate. Some European exclusive applications will also be present, such as XMB shortcuts for video services such as BBC, RTVe, Antena 3, LaSexta and numerous other European channels.

PS3 Slim

Once again, Sony has proven that they can’t keep a lid on any of their secrets. As of today, they finally announced the long rumored PS3 Slim at their Gamescom press conference.  The company unveiled the system will have all the same features and functions as the regular PS3, but will be 33% smaller, 36% lighter, and will include a 120Gb hard drive.

According to Sony, the PS3 Slim will launch in multiple regions in the beginning of September, but will be available worldwide on September 11th at a price of $299, 299 Euros, and 29980 Yen.  Read on to find out more. Read more… »

Fresh from Sony’s conference from GamesCom, owners of the upcoming PSP Go will be eligable for an unexpected promotional offer in the form of a free gift – Gran Turismo PSP. If you ask me, that is quite a gift indeed.

All you have to do is register your PSP Go between October 1 and October 10  and you will receive a free downloadable version of Gran Turismo PSP!

LBP

Today Sony announced, via PlayStation.Blog, that LittleBigPlanet will be re-released as a “Game of the Year” edition.

According to developer Media Molecule, “18 extraordinary people” are currently designing custom levels that will be included in the GotY edition. The developer explained that these custom maps will “give our new fans a taste of the over 1,000,000 user-generated levels.” These custom levels come “complete with interviews with each creator,” to give you insight and inspiration when you decide to start making your own levels. DUST 514

Today developer CCP announced that EVE Online will make the jump from PC to console with an MMO/FPS/RTS dubbed DUST 514.

According to CCP, DUST 514 gives gamers a chance to explore the surface of planets used in EVE Online. The gameplay will be a blend of FPS and RTS, “Giving commanders and ground infantry real-time configurable weapons and modular vehicles to manage dynamic battlefield conditions.” Sounds a little like a sci-fi version of S2 Games’ Savage, which is a good thing. Persona 3 Goes Portable

persona3According to the most recent Famitsu magazine, Atlus’s hit RPG Persona 3 will be making the jump from PS2 to PSP. Following up the release of Persona 1 for PSP, Persona 3′s portable incarnation will feature a new female playable main character. Hit the jump for some scans!

Modern Warfare DS

With n-Space finishing development on their third Call of Duty title for the Nintendo DS, Activision has released a gameplay trailer to show the world what they can expect.

Modern Warfare: Mobilized will be set in the same world as Modern Warfare 2, and will include multiplayer and horde modes. The fact that n-Space has already made two previous CoD games proves that there is a market for these sort of games on the DS.

The State of Play on Blur

In a recent studio update, Bizarre Creations gave details about their latest title, the racing game that is set to spark new life into the genre, Blur.

“ Blur is about intense racing, sh*t blowing up everywhere, and using powerups in a strategic way.”

CC trailer

Some of you may remember my car chase machinima Collateral Collision, which I posted a few weeks ago. For those of you who didn’t, this is just to announce an all new launch trailer I have created, which demonstrates its influences and hopefully entices you to watch the whole feature.

It has been known that Nintendo’s online market has not been up to par with its competitors: PS3 and Xbox 360.  In attempt to stimulate its growth, Ghostfire Games have been working on a new dowloadable title called Rage of the Gladiator.

The game focuses around a young prince named Gracius who, what appears, has to fight through a series of arenas to claim his crown as king of Avalance.  Right now, little is known about the storyline, but is its secrecy and appeal enough to draw a strong crowd to the WiiWare market? Read more… »

Today Ubisoft announced that the fifth installment to “the best-selling submarine series of all-time,” Silent Hunter, will arrive on the PC in early 2010.

Developed by submarine sim veterans Ubisoft Romania (Silent Hunter 3 & Silent Hunter 4), Silent Hunter 5 will focus on “cinematic battles.” Gamers will be put in command of a German U-boat during some of the most “famous battles” of World War II. Players can expect to visit the Atlantic as well as the Mediterranean while trying out new features like a first-person captain mode and a new user interface.
