Red Ring of Death

After a Game Informer report revealed that Xbox 360 had a remarkable 54.6% failure rate across a survey of their readers, Microsoft has jumped into the spotlight to defend their entertainment console.

The revelation of such an incredible failure rate has sent Microsoft into panic-mode, especially considering that their own 2008 report claimed that the 360’s failure rate stood at a meager 13%.

Hit the jump to read their official statement.

“Microsoft stands behind the Xbox 360 as a superior entertainment console with one of the best warranties in the industry. We are constantly improving the design, manufacture and performance of the console through extensive testing of potential sources of any problems. Xbox 360 is pleased to maintain the title of ‘most played console’ and the vast majority of Xbox 360 customers have enjoyed a terrific gaming and entertainment experience since their first day, and continue to, day in and day out.”

To rub salt in the wound, Game Informer’s survey also acknowledged that only 37.7% of those polled believed that Microsoft’s customer service hotline was “very helpful”.

  1. Hmm even 13% is pretty high. I guess I’m considering the components to be desktop levels. However if you could the failure rate against laptops 13% is normal. I guess it depends how you treat your Xbox!
