GT5 damage

Following the information blowout of Gran Turismo 5 from the GamesCom event, there were certainly a few questions that are still unanswered. Whilst the final release date has yet to be announced, the inclusion of damage was officially confirmed. But now now have a better idea of what to expect, thanks to a video replay of a Subaru Impreza which demonstrates Gran Turismo 5‘s damage system in full.

Disappointingly however, it has been confirmed that damage will not be applicable to every car in the game, and will only be present in select car classes which traces back to the rumour that it will only be effective for racing cars. Shame.

  1. I would love to know why Forza 2 and 3 can have visual damage done to ALL of their cars, but Gran Turismo 5 can only have it done ot racing cars. This is 2009 people, it’s time GT gets with the times. Almost every other racing game out there has damage now.

    awesome lol

  3. Y’know when it looks THAT beautiful, I can deal with only having damage on selected cars.

  4. I can’t to be honest, there’s just no excuse now. We’ve been waiting for damage for an eternity, and for it to be restricted feels like such an anticlimax. The actual crash physics also look the same as they were before – it may well have the best driving physics going but when there is no consequence, it spoils the illusion somewhat.

  5. @Grahame: I wouldn’t say that GT5 looks incredibly better then Forza 3. They are better, but not that much better. More then graphics buying GT5 will come down to the online gameplay for me. Forza has the online formula down. GT5 Prologue’s online gamplay was a joke.

@Shawn: The reason why Forza and other racing games can have damage on all cars is that they don’t have proper contracts and rights to the cars. Sure they asked for permission to create cars that look exactly the same as the real thing and use the car’s name and company name. That gives them the right to do anything they want with their cars. The Gran Turismo series on the other hand gets the real blueprints of the cars, gets full access to all information and data from the manufacturers themselves. This means that GT is using the real cars on their game meaning they don’t completely own it. They are just showcasing the cars on their game. They don’t have the final say on whether or not to put damage on all the cars.
