Today Blizzard announced that, in honor of World of Warcraft‘s fifth anniversary, the classic raid boss Onyxia will make a triumphant return.
Back in the day before Wrath of the Lich King and The Burning Crusade, Onxyia was one of the most feared bosses. In order to make the once dreaded boss a challenge to veteran players, Blizzard is converting Onxyia’s dungeon into a 10 player normal raid and a 25 player Heroic raid. The new dungeon is designed to offer a challenge to level 80 players dressed in tier 9 gear.
Blizzard said, “We will also be updating the encounter mechanics to be more fitting for modern raiding but we can guarantee players will get to experience the frightening horror of deep breaths once again.”
Gamers can expect new items, although they will be the same models as old Onyxia loot, and a 310% speed flying mount.
Blizzard also stated that gamer who login during the “limited time” anniversary even will receive an Onyxia Brood Whelping pet.

While I might not play WoW anymore, I think this is awesome news. Onyxia was my very first 40-man raid encounter, back before anyone even dared to go into Molten Core. I remember taking her down for the first time, and thinking how extremely awesome it was that 40 people would work together to achieve such a feet. Those were the days.
It’s good to see Onyxia rise again to her place of power.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
This is am-azing! Such a nostalgic treat! I might boot WoW back up again and re-activate my account just to try this.
@Shawn
Really? Onyxia was harder than MC content, I thought, as she dropped the T2 helm, whereas MC dropped T1 loot.
@Paul: Yes I will most definitely agree that Onyxia was harder then some of the MC content. That being said, it was very easy to get to Onyxia, with pretty much no trash mobs to kill, so everyone could easily try to kill her over and over and over. On my server (Bleeding Hollow) all the guilds went after her first before attempting MC, because it took a while to clear MC trash mobs before you even got to the first boss.
So awesome, if only i was still playing.
This excites me.
Sexually.
