It seems that Activision have hit the big time in terms of expected sales for 2009. Their highly-anticipated sequels, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 have apparently broken pre-sale records, with both titles sitting in the company’s top five pre-ordered games of all time.
And after realizing that Activision has been around for almost thirty years, it becomes even more of an incredible achievement.
The figures were released during the company’s annual earnings announcement, with Modern Warfare 2 garnering the most pre-orders in Activision’s history. While UA2 is only sitting at #5, it definitely goes to show that Activision has played its cards right this year.
There is still plenty of time for those numbers to increase too, with Modern Warfare 2 set for a November 10 release, and Ultimate Alliance 2 for September 15.
Other gaming companies have already started to recognize that Modern Warfare is going to flood the market come November. Blizzard have just announced that Starcraft II will be delayed until next year, and Airtight Games have followed suit by pushing back Dark Void to Q1 2010.
Keep an eye on Modern Warfare 2 as there is certain to be plenty of movement in the lead up to its release.
