Yeah I was very suprised to play Saints Row 2 one day, just driving and see a huge Wolverine Origins Billboard in front of me. If its suttle I dont really mind but when you think 'where the hell did that come from' its weird.

Namco has had a long affair with in game advertising. 1982's Pole Position had trackside billboards for other Atari and Namco licensed games in it, like Dig Dug & Centipede as well as billboards for the two companies themselves.

If the consumer is told in advance that the game has advertising, then at least they can make informed decision whether to purchase.
What irritates me is when they stick ads into games after the fact, be it through an update or patch.
I don't understand why people like ads. They detract from the games I play. I don't want to be sold products, even subtley, when I'm relaxing with my favorite game.

This was a great read Steven. I have to admit that I also don't mind in-game advertising to much, except in the occasional game where it's always just shoved right in your face. That really gets on my nerves.

I agree with Chris - If the advertising is subtle, I'm not too bothered.

I have fond memories of playing a copy of Chex Quest I got from a cereal box years ago; it was really just a modded version of Doom, but it was fun for a little while.
