sc-conviction

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction has nothing to do with me. I don’t own an Xbox 360 and Tom Clancy isn’t my uncle. Personally, I wish both things were different, but I guess things will never change.

Conviction‘s Lead Designer Steven Masters has told Kikizo the title is very possible on PlayStation 3; it’s just a combination of business and heart that’s keeping this from happening (he made no comment on me and Tom).

When the PSPgo was revealed “at E3″, many gamers were disappointed to see that a second analogue wasn’t included. While the PSP and its newer iterations have managed to get by this long with just one, it would perhaps be far more beneficial for gamers and developers alike to be offered what appears to be the standard for this generation’s gameplay mechanics.

So why no second nub? (who has ever called it a nub?) Hit the jump, then use the nub on your mouse to scroll down and read what Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Worldwide Studios, recently told Game Informer.

Blizzard have gotten themselves into a bit of hot water in China involving a change in operating procedure. As a result, the local version of WoW has been down for roughly 6 weeks now, and it’s looking unlikely that this embargo will be rising any time soon.

Due to strict rules regarding MMO’s, and gaming in general, local distributors, or “operators” of foreign games have to submit the game to the government for review of new content. The government, unsurprisingly, didn’t like what they saw in Blizzard’s latest refresh of the 3 year old title.

expansions

To put it mildly, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift has been one of the most genuinely exhilarating console racing experiences I have ever had, so the prospect of receiving a further dose of action in the form of DLC was one of salivating proportions.

This is where the Speed and Adrenaline Expansions come in, Evolution Studio’s first attempt at expanding the MotorStorm experience since the launch of Pacific Rift last year. But with so many games now turning to DLC, how do Evolution’s efforts weigh up?

Read on as I dissect both expansion packs with a fine shard of broken glass.

[Weooo Weooo! Fun Police is a quick look at questionable design choices in popular games]

Sometimes, developers take risks. Visionary directors might have a specific gameplay element that they want to introduce; in their minds, it’s revolutionary; but as a gamer, it just makes you want to pull your hair out!

Dead Space was a massive hit immediately upon release. Hailed for it’s innovative “non tank” controls and a return to an environment that was (gasp!) actually scary, the game was a 15-20 hour action packed romp through an infected mining ship. Read on to find out when I momentarily stopped having fun, and why! Read more… »

Halo has been through many changes since it’s debut announcement back at MacWorld on July 21st, 1999.

Originally designed as an RTS for PC and Macs, shortly after it was changed to a third person shooter… then in 2000, Microsoft picked it up, and took it on the path that we all know.

In the world of the Wild West, violence is as common as spilt beer.  It’s a place where no one can be trusted and everyone must be feared.  To let your guard down is to take a bullet in the back.  Efforts in the past to recreate this classic environment have typically been bland, boring and unsuccessful.  That is until now.

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood combines a great atmosphere, with a wonderful story and fast paced action to provide an unforgettable experience.  The game may stumble over a few clumsy game play mechanics but nitpicking these details is like arguing the difference between a hoedown and a hootenanny.

Stephen Toulouse is known throughout the XBL circles as “The Banhammer”, or more specifically, the guy who’s job it is to remove the cheaters, modders, hackers and spammers from everyone’s favourite* console gaming network. In a recent interview, he’s provided a bit of an insight into his role and the amount of labor it takes to police the 8 million plus regulars that game, chat, message and generally communicate across the service.

Unsurprisingly, it seems he spends more of his time removing racist and homophobic crap from people’s profiles, than throwing down the ‘hammer on gamerscore glitchers and modchippers. Interestingly, he also discusses a little bit about the “sexuality in Gamertags” scandal that plagued MS a few months back, and how they are still working on a solution.
