wii-sports-resort

Wii Sports is the best selling Wii title to date, due to its bundling with the console since its launch in 2006. It served as an excellent example of the Wii’s capabilities both in motion control, and as a family friendly platform.

It would appear as though Nintendo is riding a familiar wave with the launch of its new Wii Motion-Plus peripheral by packaging in a similar product both in name and purpose – Wii Sports: Resort serves to exemplify the abilities of the new accessory via a series of activities that are enjoyable for the whole family.

Every so often I fall into a funk with my regular repertoire of games. I just get sick of blasting zombies in Left 4 Dead or I grow weary from kicking the red coats out of the States in Empire: Total War. When I fall into one of theses episodes I look for a game that offers a unique experience that no other game I’m playing fills. Anno 1404: Dawn of Discovery just happens to fit that bill.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Anno series (1404 is the third following 1701 and 1602), it’s a real-time strategy game with a heavy focus on city building and economy management. As the name suggests the game takes place in 1404. Players are tasked with taking a single ship, loaded with all the essentials to start a colony, and finding a suitable island to build a settlement. Once a simple colony is established, gamers have to start generating goods to satisfy the colonialists’ needs as well as satisfy the colony’s need for income from trade.  Some examples of goods include lumber, stone, ore, cider, fish, clothes, etc. Read more… »

Retro gaming has become cool, mainstream, and “hip”. People, bored and glazed over with the next “EA Sports 2xxx” clone, complete with new statistics and slightly improved graphics, now YEARN for a way to be re-introduced into the games of yesteryear.

Companies, knowing this, almost falling over themselves with glee, have now found a way to make bucketloads of money off dirt cheap licenses they couldn’t give away two years ago. Is this a bad thing? Hell no.

I decided to delve into the past and find those nuggets of retro-sploitation. This is RetroStyle. This is Radica Tetris.

Infernal: Hell’s Vengeance is an Xbox 360 port of the shooter Infernal for the PC, and stars Ryan Reynolds Lennox, a fallen angel. During the course of the game, you’ll take part in a tale that involves betrayal, lots of shooting and a few mispronounced lines.

The original was met with less than stellar reviews, but can the console iteration overcome the stigma? Read on to find out. Read more… »

Games which offer endless possibilities as to how far you can go have always interested me.  This is probably the reason I was so obsessed with the popular flash games Icy Tower and Dolphin Olympics 2.

Lima Sky’s Doodle Jump takes the same concept of climbing to endless heights and spins it in a way which is suited perfectly to the iPhone platform.

Today Tim Sweeney, founder of Epic Games, announced that his development company will not release a full version of Unreal Tournament in the next “several years.”

command-and-conquer-4

Remember when I cooked up a little post about Command & Conquer 4 being announced? Today EA decided to shed a little bit more light on the game by means of a new trailer.

While it doesn’t show any in-game footage or give us any new details on the game, the trailer will provide long time fans of the C&C series with head-scratching questions like, how did Kane and the GDI ever got on the same level and team up after a decade of constant war.

For the first official trailer and my opinion, hit the jump. Read more… »
